Fremantle, Globo to Co-Produce, Distribute Brazilian Drama Series ‘Crime Inc’

As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for gritty dramas that delve into the complexities of human nature, I am genuinely intrigued by this collaboration between Fremantle and Globo on “Crime Inc.” The fusion of storytelling prowess from these two media titans promises an enthralling ride.

Collaboratively creating a fresh drama titled “Crime Inc,” Fremantle, a renowned global content company, and Brazil’s public broadcasting station, Globo, are joining forces. This project will be developed and produced by Mixer Films and Fremantle. Globo will exclusively distribute the series within Brazil via their streaming platform, Globoplay, while Fremantle secures rights to distribute the show globally beyond Brazil.

The story revolves around Vagner and his father Marquinhos, who heads a Rio de Janeiro mafia clan. Tensions over who will take control upon retirement within their family dynasty create unease all around. Ambitious Vagner is prepared to go to great lengths to be the first Black figurehead of the group once his father steps down.

João Daniel Tikhomiroff, president of Mixer Films, expressed great enthusiasm about an upcoming series. ‘It’s a captivating story born from real-life occurrences, filled with tension and unexpected turns,’ he said. In partnership with Fremantle and Globo, Mixer Films will create a series that promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

The screenplay for “Crime Inc” was penned by Dudu Nobre and Caio Cobra, with adaptations made by Marcos Osorio Vidal and Willy Van Broock.

For the very first time, media titans Fremantle and Globo are collaborating on a venture; however, it’s quite probable that this won’t be their only joint endeavor.

Manuel Belmar, Globo’s Director of Digital Products, expressed great satisfaction about the initial deal between Globo and Fremantle. He believes this partnership will pave the way for fresh possibilities,” stated in a press release.

He continued, “For co-production deals, we seek out narratives with aspects that resonate across various demographics and cultural backgrounds. We firmly trust that ‘Crime Inc’ possesses the power to captivate not only Brazilian but also global audiences.

Manuel Marti, who leads Scripted Development at Fremantle in Latin America, stated: “Our collaboration with Globo signifies an engaging new phase for Fremantle, as we delve further into uncovering captivating tales that surpass geographical boundaries. The series ‘Crime Inc’ presents a distinctive narrative that will enthrall viewers not just in Brazil but also worldwide, highlighting the depth and variety of Brazilian storytelling.
