As a seasoned gamer with a bit of cynicism baked into my gaming soul, I can’t help but feel a tinge of deja vu when it comes to Fntastic and their latest announcement. After the rollercoaster ride that was The Day Before, I find myself questioning whether this studio’s promises are more like a mirage in the desert than a solid foundation for a game.
Fantastic has revealed that they’ve scrapped their Kickstarter for the “Escape Factory” project and are now focusing on creating a new action-horror “Prop Hunt” game titled “ITEMS.
The creator is commonly recognized for having released The Day Before, a multiplayer survival horror extraction shooter, on December 7, 2023, in early access. However, the studio closed down only four days later after announcing their shutdown. Later in September 2024, Fntastic resurfaced with a “recovery plan.
It appears that a game titled “Escape Factory” was being developed in a studio, which aimed to gather funds through Kickstarter, setting a goal of $20,000. Regrettably, the project managed to raise only $3,146. Consequently, Fntastic has communicated that they will be concentrating on another project instead. In a post made on their platform (previously known as Twitter), the studio stated, “We’ve received numerous appeals for a prop hunt game (please refer to our previous message containing a poll), and following thorough examination and dialogue with the team, we have determined that the Escape Factory project did not generate enough enthusiasm.

The statement went on to say that work on Escape Factory has been “temporarily suspended” and that the Kickstarter campaign has also been cancelled but “no funds have been collected.”
Nonetheless, your desires hold significant value for us! Excitingly, we are initiating the creation of a brand-new action-horror prop hunt game titled ITEMS. The team expressed their eagerness to develop a fully playable demo prior to considering a Kickstarter campaign.
