Beyond Good & Evil 2 Is Still In Development At Ubisoft But With A New Creative Director

As a veteran gamer with decades of gaming experience under my belt, I must say the news about Fawzi Mesmar joining Beyond Good & Evil 2 as Creative Director is nothing short of exhilarating! Having been a part of over 20 successful video game launches, this man is no stranger to crafting unique and engaging experiences.

Supporters of the long-awaited action-adventure game Beyond Good & Evil 2 have been growing impatient since Ubisoft, its French developer and publisher, hasn’t provided any updates for over a year now. With the details found online, it was initially announced at the Ubidays conference back in 2008, and an update from game director Michel Ancel on Instagram followed in 2016, while the trailer premiered during E3 2017.

After Ancel’s departure from Ubisoft in 2020 and the sad demise of Creative Director Emile Morel last year, there hasn’t been much talk about the upcoming sequel apart from the release of a remastered game for its 20th anniversary and an animated movie based on the video game, produced by Netflix. However, things have taken a turn as Ubisoft has appointed a new Creative Director to guide the development team, picking up where Morel left off as work continues.

Fawzi Mesmar, Ubisoft’s VP of Global Creative, announced on LinkedIn his new role as Creative Director for Beyond Good & Evil 2. He mentioned that he has been collaborating with the team for quite some time now, and has had the opportunity to observe their exceptional talent at close range. In his post, Mesmar expressed gratitude for standing upon the creative shoulders of giants who have previously supported the team, and is excited about continuing to develop a game that offers an unparalleled player experience.

On October 23rd, 2024, the French developer and publisher officially announced the new position of the game designer Mesmar, as per his LinkedIn post. In a statement given to Kotaku, they confirmed that with over two decades of experience as an award-winning game designer and creative director, he has played a significant role in launching more than 20 video games. Previously, Mesmar worked with the Beyond Good & Evil 2 team as VP of Editorial. In his new position, he will be dedicated to furthering the vision established by our late friend and colleague, Emile Morel.
