Are Lacey Chabert and Holly Robinson Peete Too Old to Star in a Hallmark Movie?

As a seasoned movie enthusiast with more than a few grey hairs on my head, I can’t help but feel a twinge of empathy for Penny Perry and the other talented individuals mentioned in this lawsuit against Hallmark.

Just prior to the busy holiday season, Hallmark is facing an age discrimination lawsuit. Former casting director Penny Perry filed the complaint on October 9, claiming she was let go because of her age. The lawsuit, obtained by Variety, suggests that Hallmark executive VP of programming Lisa Hamilton Daly referred to Perry as “too old,” and sought to terminate her employment. According to the suit, Hamilton Daly stated, “We need to hire someone who is familiar with younger talent.” Furthermore, the complaint alleges that Hamilton Daly mentioned Lacey Chabert and Holly Robinson Peete as being too aged to lead Hallmark projects anymore.

The lawsuit claims that Hamilton Daly stated about Chabert, “As she gets older, we need to find someone similar to replace her.” Chabert is 42 years old. Moreover, regarding Robinson Peete, the exec allegedly said, “Nobody wants her because she’s too costly and getting too old. She can no longer play main roles.” On the other hand, Liam Neeson mentioned he might stop leading action movies by the end of 2025 when he turns 71, but he may continue doing them forever if he chooses to.

According to the network’s statement, Lacey and Holly reside at Hallmark. Regarding the ongoing legal matter, we typically refrain from commenting. Although we strongly reject these baseless accusations, we will not engage in a public discourse about their employment status.
