‘Elsbeth’ Casts Laurie Metcalf and Eric McCormack as Guest Stars (EXCLUSIVE)

As an ardent admirer of exceptional talent and gripping narratives, I am absolutely thrilled by the addition of Laurie Metcalf and Eric McCormack to the cast of “Elsbeth.” Their rich backgrounds and diverse roles have already left indelible marks in the annals of television and film history.

Laurie Metcalf and Eric McCormack have been chosen to appear as special guests in the second season of CBS’s “Elsbeth,” a mystery series that is a spinoff from both “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight.” Carrie Preston plays Elsbeth Tascioni, who serves as the main detective in this show.

In the eighth episode of the season, Metcalf is set to play Regina Coburn, who is well-known for her role in a crime drama series but now desires creative satisfaction beyond her two-decade portrayal of a tough and unyielding detective. This is according to CBS’s description.

Following the gruesome murder of the showrunner for Regina’s popular television series, which occurred within his office and seems to have been carried out by an angry spectator, Regina finds herself in direct confrontation with Elsbeth as she becomes the main person of interest.

In the ninth episode of Season 2, actor McCormack takes on the role of Tom Murphy, a captivating and suave individual who runs Heiwa Zen Center – a high-end holistic wellness sanctuary designed for the elite.

Tom decides to tackle the issue himself when his health business faces a threat from a vengeful young competitor.

Elsbeth” is a police-themed comedy-drama that often follows the format of a “solvable mystery,” rather than a traditional “whodunit.” In this type of show, viewers are usually aware of the murderer’s identity at the start of each episode. The series debuted in February 2024 and began its second season soon after wrapping up the first one.

Jon Tolins, our showrunner and executive producer, expressed his delight over the streak of exceptional guest stars on ‘Elsbeth’. He mentioned that our team puts in significant effort to create an inviting atmosphere where talented actors love to perform. It seems that this positive vibe has spread, and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it.

Metcalf, who has won four Emmys for her work on “Roseanne” and “Hacks,” is currently acting on ABC’s “The Connors” alongside John Goodman. She has also been cast in the third season of Ryan Murphy’s series “Monster.” In this upcoming season, she will be appearing opposite Charlie Hunnam, portraying Augusta, the mother of Ed Gein.

Metcalf was nominated for an Oscar for her performance as a supporting actress in Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird,” and she has appeared in various films such as the “Toy Story” series, “Somewhere in Queens,” “Scream 2,” “JFK,” and “Uncle Buck.” Additionally, she is a two-time Tony Award winner and one of the original members of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre.

Known for portraying Will Truman on NBC’s “Will & Grace,” Emmy award winner McCormack has also made a name for himself as a stage actor. His latest project, “The Cottage,” was recently completed on Broadway. He first appeared on Broadway in the 2001 production of “The Music Man” and starred in the Tony-nominated play, Gore Vidal’s “The Best Man.

On the small screen, McCormack is set to appear in the MGM+ miniseries titled “Nine Deceased Individuals in a Mexican Mortuary.” Additionally, he has worked on projects such as “The Other Black Girl,” “Travelers,” “Trust Me,” and “Perception.
