Laufey Concert Movie, Filmed at Hollywood Bowl With the LA Phil, Will Hit Cinemas in December

As a long-time follower of Laufey’s career and someone who has had the pleasure of witnessing her mesmerizing performances live, I can confidently say that this upcoming concert movie is not to be missed! Her unique blend of jazz, pop, and classical music resonates deeply with me, as it does with countless others worldwide.

I’m excited to share that come December, you’ll find me gracing the big screen! That’s because a captivating concert film of my recent performance alongside the LA Phil at the iconic Hollywood Bowl is set for a limited run in cinemas nationwide. Can’t wait for you all to join me on this musical journey!

Beginning December 6th, “A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl” by Laufey will be screened in cinemas and Imax theaters, as shared by Trafalgar Releasing on Wednesday. Advance ticket sales start October 30th; secure your seats here.

The movie is directed by Sam Wrench, who previously made “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour,” the highest grossing concert film ever. Given that Laufey counts Taylor Swift among her role models, despite her music having a more traditional jazz and standards-influenced style, this seems fitting. As EbMaster noted in his review, “Laufey certainly has a Taylor Swift side to her, or perhaps a Keely Smith-meets-Swift side.

On Wednesday, a brief sneak peek was shared, featuring Laufey singing “From the Start” for 50 seconds. The clip includes an aerial view of the packed Hollywood Bowl joining in with the repeated phrase in the song that encourages audience engagement.

The artist, who holds Icelandic, Chinese, and American citizenship, expressed in a statement, “It’s long been a dream of mine to perform my music alongside the LA Philharmonic. To be able to share this concert with audiences far beyond Los Angeles and the Hollywood Bowl is deeply significant to me, particularly as I hail from various parts of the world that have all contributed to the inspiration for my work and artistic journey.

The August performance by the musician was reviewed by EbMaster with the title “Laufey Seems Destined to Play the Hollywood Bowl, With a Captivating Pop/Jazz/Classical Set”. In the review, our critic stated, “Just as some are born into privilege, Laufey seems destined for the Hollywood Bowl. Her impressive debut at the venue Wednesday night, accompanied by a Thomas Wilkins-led LA Phil, felt inevitable since she released her first EP three years ago. … To be honest, headlining the Bowl this year for just one night seemed like a small-scale event. It sold out so quickly – even the highest priced resale tickets were in high demand – suggesting that Laufey could easily have performed a three-night series.

The concert featured two segments. First, Laufey performed with her band, then for the second part, the entire Los Angeles Philharmonic joined her on stage.

Last year, I (as a movie buff) was thrilled to see Trafalgar Releasing take charge of the international screening of the Swift concert film. This company has consistently been at the helm for the domestic or global distribution of live performance flicks by artists like Beyoncé, BTS, Metallica, Coldplay, and Billie Eilish – making every concert feel like a front-row experience!

The movie was created by Veeps Studios, with the involvement of Max Gredinger, Bianca Bhagat, Devin Dehaven, Kyle Heller, Michael Schneider, and Jessica Roulston.

The concert where Laufey performed was a part of her tour promoting her 2023 sophomore album titled “Bewitched.” This album topped the jazz album chart, and it earned her the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album earlier in the year.
