As a lifelong football fan with a special affinity for the underdog teams, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming docuseries “Just One Before I Die.” Born and raised in a Buffalo suburb myself, the passion and dedication of Bills fans has always resonated deeply with me.
Legendary NFL player Andre Reed and hometown actor Chad Michael Murray are set to serve as executive producers for an upcoming documentary series titled “Just One More Before I Die,” focusing on the dedicated fanbase of the Buffalo Bills.
One Shot Before I’m Gone” is a documentary series that captures the compelling tale of the Bills Mafia, showcasing their indomitable spirit as the Buffalo Bills strive for their long-awaited title in the Super Bowl. (Despite multiple attempts, the Bills have yet to secure a victory in the Super Bowl.) This series is jointly directed and produced by native Buffalonians Addison Henderson (“Givers of Death,” “The Forgotten City”) and Kevin Polowy (“Standing Up Falling Down,” “In the Shadow of Beirut”), and co-created by Clayton Polowy.
Just like many residents of Buffalo, I, too, was brought up as part of the Bills Mafia,” Murray explains, given his roots in the Buffalo suburb of Clarence, NY. “It seems almost inevitable for us, as if it’s a birthright. The fervor and commitment we have for the Bills is unparalleled.
Regarding joining the project, Murray states: “Being involved in a docuseries focusing on the fans, who are frequently overlooked and deserve recognition, has been a long-held dream of mine. I’m overjoyed to see it materialize. To collaborate with my friend and football icon Andre Reed, along with this entire creative team, is like living out a Buffalo Bills fan’s dream. I can hardly wait to assist in honoring the people who contribute so significantly to the lasting legacy of the Buffalo Bills.
Speaking from personal experience as a wide receiver for the Bills during their remarkable four-year streak at the Super Bowl from 1991 to 1994, and being honored with induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014, I can confidently say that the Bills’ fanbase is exceptionally unique and incredibly passionate. There isn’t a rival in the NFL that matches their spirit.
The documentary series started being filmed in August coinciding with the Bills’ 2024 season debut. So far, filming locations have included Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse (all in New York), Miami, Baltimore, Houston, New York City, and various sites in New Jersey and Connecticut.
Kevin Polwoy, a former entertainment journalist now turned filmmaker, expressed great enthusiasm as he announced the addition of two highly respected figures from the Buffalo Bills organization and the Bills Mafia family to their project. He likened this collaboration to the Bills acquiring two top-tier free agents in the market.
Henderson, who had previously collaborated with the late Chadwick Boseman on various projects like Marvel’s “Black Panther” and “Avengers” series, stated: “Their enthusiasm and skill contribute an additional unique touch to this docuseries. This enables us to narrate the story of the Bills Mafia in a manner that genuinely reflects the essence of this renowned fanbase. Collectively, we’re creating something exceptional.
Notable filmmaker Stephen Gerard Kelly, known for “In the Shadow of Beirut,” Ireland’s submission for best international film at the 2024 Academy Awards, serves as the director of photography. Additionally, the production is overseen by Mac Cappuccino. The movie titled “Just One Before I Die” is an independent project, self-funded and financed by AKC Film Productions.
