As a seasoned gamer who’s seen it all, I can’t help but feel a pang of empathy for our protagonist in this chapter. The tale of Amy, her brother, and their shared past is as heart-wrenching as it is thrilling.
“Fear the Spotlight is a delightful indie gem that brings warmth back into my heart. It’s an endearing love story, boasting a charming PlayStation art style, complete with puzzles. If you find yourself struggling with these puzzles, don’t worry – we’ve got a walkthrough for Fear the Spotlight to guide you through.
Fear the Spotlight Walkthrough – All puzzle solutions (Vivian)
In “Fear the Spotlight,” there are two stories you can experience, starting with “Vivian’s Story.” We’ll walk you through each puzzle as they come up during gameplay, but if you want to jump straight to a specific one, use the table of contents at the top to navigate.
Golden statue puzzle
Your task involves gathering essential tools for your upcoming adventure. You’ll require a screwdriver and pliers specifically, as these are crucial for moving forward in your journey. The golden idol located behind the door can only be passed once you have both of these items with you.
Make your way towards the locker room close to the golden idol, where you’ll find a duffel bag. To open it, move your hand along its zipper after touching it. Inside, you’ll discover a keycard essential for reaching the staff corridor. Some additional points worth noting in this area include a vending machine stocked with… welding glue (my preferred choice), and what seems to be a grave.
Once you’re in the staff hallway, locate the toolbox, and use the code “001” to unlock it. For the moment, just take out the screwdriver; we’ll return later to get the pliers once we need them with another item.
After retrieving the screwdriver, move towards the vent located just beyond the toolbox, and engage with it. Utilize the screwdriver to open the vent, then proceed into the following room. In this new space, find the window and use it as an entrance, leading you to the locker room for the boys.
Indoors, locate a gaping hole in a wall that seems to lead to the shower area. Squat and crawl through it. Nearby, you’ll find a drain which you can manipulate using a screwdriver to loosen it. Inside, there are coins or quarters that you should collect. Return these coins to the vending machine located in the girls’ locker room. This is where your initial encounter with the ‘spotlight head’ will occur, so exercise caution.
Upon returning to the vending machine, insert the coins you found earlier into the coin slot. Afterward, key in the code B34 on the keypad. Patiently await the delivery of your scrumptious welding adhesive.
Return to the toolbox now and handle the pair of pliers. Employ the adhesive you’ve recently acquired for repairing them, then proceed to the girls’ locker room. Approach the grave first, interact with the soil to unearth a rose. Use the pliers to carefully open each of the fingers holding the rose, and retrieve it. Subsequently, make your way back to the golden statue door and present the rose to the statue.
Fuse box puzzle
You must enter the school’s main area, but unfortunately, there’s a fire. The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can’t function, but the gymnasium still has power. This means you need to address the electrical issue in the gymnasium, only so that we can shut it down again. Alright, let’s get that done.
Initially, I found it tricky, and I’m not completely past it yet. When you encounter the fuse box in the gym, follow these steps: First, grab the first fuse from the table near the panel, then open the panel itself. You can locate the correct numbered fuse by interpreting the symbols on the board next to the table or using this provided image as a guide.
Once it’s unlocked, you’ll find yourself at the heart of the puzzle. Initially, join the red and black connections in the same region on the game board. Since you’re working your way through this step by step, start with the upper sections first, then proceed to the middle ones, followed by the rest.
After connecting both cables, go to the fuse box located on the right side, pull the first handle to open the initial compartment. Insert the item you had picked up earlier from the table, and open the compartment that unlocks once the fuse is in place. Then, return to the other panel.
You’ll find an electrical reading meter, and a rotatable dial. Rotate the dial until the top number displays green or, more specifically, when it aligns with the “x100” mark in the half of the dial that has a squiggly line (indicating the gray section).
Go ahead and return to the adjacent panel. Observe that the dial is positioned at x100 in the wavy section, while the reading shows 4. This implies that you should manipulate the dials on the second container until they display 4 on the left side and 00 on the right side. Once done, remember to set the switch at the bottom to the wavy position.
To access the third storage area, where you’ll find a switch you have to activate, this action will unveil additional sections within the Gymnasium. You might also require extra fuses for this process. Go ahead, make your way, and proceed towards the storage compartment.
Instead of explaining the entire process of obtaining the fuses, I’ll just tell you where to find the keys for the storage room and provide a hint about the second one. To get the keys from the girls’ bathroom, look in the toilet stall in there – it’s not empty. As for the second key, go to the boys’ bathroom, locate the urinal filled with something, and give it a flush. This should help you get both keys needed for the storage room.
After acquiring both fuses, make your way back to the fuse box, but be cautious as the spotlight head has reappeared; tread carefully on your return. In the fuse box, connect the red and black wires to the second compartment, then insert the fuses.
This round, adjust the dial labeled “x10” in the “omega” section. You’ll notice a reading of “8” on the electrical meter. Then, return to the other panel’s dials. In this instance, set the left dial to “8” and the right one to “0”. Make sure the switch at the bottom is in the “omega” position.
Once more, I find myself ready to explore another round of puzzles! This time, I’m diving into the tranquil realm of the pool area. My first stop will be the pool office where I’ll retrieve the initial fuse using the storage cabinet keys that I’ve collected earlier – a detail that took me by surprise!
After you’ve emptied the pool, descend the ladder to locate the raffle lever. Make your way back up without being caught in the spotlight, then re-enter the main hall. Use the raffle lever on the raffle machine and retrieve the last fuse.
After obtaining it, make your way back to the fuse box one last time. This time, your task is to adjust the first dial to “x1” on the “omega” side. Doing so will set the meter to “1”. As a result, the correct settings for the dials on the right are now “1” on the left and a dot on the right. Remember to flip the switch back to “omega”.
Once that’s complete, flip the last switch and make your way to the breaker located at the top of the stairs to shut off the gym that you worked hard to turn on. Afterward, proceed to the HVAC unit positioned outside to carry on with your adventure.
Floor Mural Puzzle
Upon entering the main school building, you encounter an unusual puzzle right away, near the fiery auditorium. It’s not complex, more of a trial-and-error type. You need to arrange the patterns on the floor so they fit and are correctly angled. The peculiarity lies in the fact that there are no clear instructions on how it should be oriented, so you just have to persist until it makes sense.
To streamline your process and save time, align your own with the one shown below, then open the hatch leading into the school’s underside.
Step by step, I’m descending the ladder, grabbing the keys that open up the hallway. You’ll see a peculiar statue without a face here, something I overlooked for quite some time. But now, my mission is clear: gather the scattered pieces of its face and bring this statue back to its original splendor. Let’s see if I can finally complete this task!
Classroom Puzzles
In this upcoming part, the number of classrooms might appear daunting, but don’t worry! There’s a clear sequence to follow and straightforward explanations for everything. To start, I’ll outline the sequence in which you should explore the classrooms, and break down each individual puzzle into its own section. A map can be found near the main room’s wall mural, allowing you to easily navigate your way around. Here’s a simplified version of that map, with markers indicating the order to progress if you’re in search of some quick guidance.
To begin, make your way to the art studio where you will retrieve an object known as the ‘jack’. This tool is handy for shifting heavy objects that are too cumbersome for you to move alone. There are no puzzles in this room; simply locate it and engage with it. Be mindful on your exit, as you should steer clear of a ‘spotlight’ to stay safe.
Return to the central room initially, but pause at the obstruction that’s barring the way to the bathrooms. You’ll need to remove this barrier with a jack, then proceed. Go through the damaged wall, and make your way towards the mirrors located on the far side of the bathrooms. Interact with the mirror in the middle using your screwdriver to dislodge it, and gather the first fragment of the mask from it.
The biology classroom lies ahead on the eastern part of the structure. After returning to the central area and retrieving the jack, remove the obstruction in your way with it. Continue moving forward until you reach the classroom.
In this area, there’s no puzzle to solve; instead, engage with the ropes supporting the cage and tug them to make it collapse. Interact with the cage itself, and employ the pliers to pry loose the metal, similar to how you handled the golden statue earlier. Once you’ve done that, gather the TV Cables lying near the skeleton, and then proceed on your way.
Your upcoming destination is a room near the biology classroom, often referred to as the Audiovisual (AV) room. Please note that this isn’t a mystery or puzzle room, but it can give off a chilling vibe. Venture inside and follow the way laid out before you to retrieve the VHS tape and the peculiar key. Once gathered, make your exit and return towards the west wing of the building.
Your next stop is the music classroom.
Music classroom puzzle
Eventually, here’s the thing! Although it might be a breeze for you, I find it quite challenging to recall even basic sequences. Therefore, this was quite a challenge. Firstly, engage with the television in the music room and connect both the TV wires and the VHS tape.
Now, as it’s quite difficult to explain in text how to play musical notes I don’t understand, I’ve prepared a handy video in which you can see a 25 year old man struggle with SCART cables, and a 4 note pattern. Do enjoy. Once you’ve done it, a panel on the piano will open up, and you’ll be able to nab your second mask piece.
Once you’ve wrapped up in the music studio, your next stop should be the drama classroom. Inside this room, look for a rug that conceals a secret trapdoor in the floor. Remember the peculiar key you found in the AV room? Use it to unlock this hidden door. After descending the ladder, proceed to the end of the room and grab the floppy disk that’s there.
Computer lab
Deliver the floppy disk to the computer room, which is quite predictable. This segment is particularly nerve-wracking due to its survival elements, and you’ll have to cope with the slow write speeds characteristic of 90’s disks while evading a man whose head resembles a stage light. It’s not a traditional puzzle, but if you’re under pressure (and you are), you might overlook what needs to be done.
First off, insert the floppy disk into the computer that greets you upon entering the room, initiating the writing process. After that, it’s crucial to avoid detection by the spotlight head, so find a place to hide and remain inconspicuous while time passes. Eventually, the computer will emit a ping sound to signal the process is complete.
Here’s your task: Retrieve the floppy disk and dash towards the computer positioned at the rear of the room. Slip the floppy disk into this particular computer, then wait for it to complete its process. This action will transmit a file to the printer located in the same room. Once you hear the distinct ping sound again, make a beeline for the printer. It’s on the left side of the room as you face the computer at the back, but if you’re standing near the front door, it’ll be on the right.
Alright, let’s move on over and snag the projector screen – crucial for solving this section’s last riddle. Once done, make a beeline back the way we came. If, by chance, you’ve sustained any injuries (haven’t happened to me in my gaming run), don’t forget to use those health kits you’ve collected along the way.
Poetry puzzle
For this section, the last challenge isn’t particularly difficult. Start by inserting the projector slide obtained from the computer lab into the projector located towards the front of the room. Adjust it using the two orange knobs to match it with the board. Ensure that the edges align with the marked square on the board, and it will automatically adjust when you release it. The phrases you see next will then appear on the screen.
In the Radiance, I Bloom
In the given space, you’ll find a container equipped with three symbols on separate dials, along with an arrangement depicting various sunrise/sunset cycles (phases). The answer to this puzzle can be found both within the written text as well as by adjusting these dials.
The rose symbolizes the initial phase, the cage signifies the second stage, and the knife plunged into its heart symbolizes the fourth step. To adjust each dial appropriately, set the first one for maximum sunlight, the second for a full moon, and the last one to a dot that lies between the full sun and the setting sun. Once you’ve made these adjustments, it will resemble something similar to this setup.
To get your last mask segment, press the button located centrally. Then, make your way back to the main chamber, and descend the ladder that’s part of the mural you previously deciphered. Engage with the peculiar altar, and insert the mask fragments in their correct positions to advance further.
Water pipe puzzle
Following your restoration of the shrine and gaining a distressingly grim insight into the events that transpired at this school back in 1997 – an educational institution that seems more like a nightmare – you’ll encounter a water pump system. Activating this system will switch on the sprinklers, shielding Amy from the harsh glare of the spotlight. Navigate through this area until you locate the key to a prison cell (hidden within a chest in the dressing room). Use the key to unlock the prison cell. In the corner near the shower, you’ll come across a garbage can. Upon searching it, you’ll be reminded once more of the deeply troubling nature of this situation, and you’ll find the water pipe.
Return to your ‘hideout’ and deal with the water pipes. You’ll have to fix the section that’s missing (it’s located on the right side) and then interact with the machine situated on the right to restart the water flow. After that, just adjust the levers according to where you want the water to be directed.
You should aim for the first lever to be positioned at three past twelve, the second one at six past twelve, and the third one at nine past twelve.
When that’s done, head on back from whence you came, and head into the theatre to save Amy.
Final boss encounter
In the final part of Fear the Spotlight, it takes an unusual turn as it feels more like a clash against a formidable opponent. As soon as you step into the theater, you’re given a sneak peek at live electrical wiring and pools of water, which you’ll need to utilize shortly.
Once you’re at the theater and spot Amy, deactivate all the generators you find along the way so you can make your way towards the stage. When you reach there, locate the ropes on the left, center, and right sides, just as you did in the biology classroom. After that, engage Amy in conversation to kick off the concluding scene of the Vivian storyline.
To make things clearer, I’ve prepared a video demonstration that shows my performance (including a less-than-perfect execution during the third phase). Enjoy!
In this last showdown, I’ve got three phases to tackle. For each phase, I’ve got to give him an electrifying shock followed by interacting with his spotlight head. In the first round-up, he’ll leap towards me thrice, leaving a fiery path behind. Hiding under tables won’t help here, so stay alert and ready to move! My best strategy is to stand in front of one of those water puddles and keep a generator nearby. When he takes that leap into the water, I can give him a good shock!
After he’s been shocked, make your way over to him and engage with him. Before doing so, use pliers to remove the spiked wire on his face first. Take your time getting there, so don’t rush unless it’s necessary.
The second stage is simpler to manage than the first. To continue, navigate towards another generator by standing within some puddles.
As a gamer, if you don’t initially spot him, don’t fret! He’ll just stay put, emitting two beams of light, so duck for cover and wait until he leaps back up. When he’s down on the ground, dash towards him and grab the screwdriver to unscrew the two bolts that secure his face shield. Easy peasy!
During this third stage, managing him can be challenging due to some unexpected behaviors. This time, when he leaps upward, he’ll leave behind a trail of fire that expands as he moves. Upon his return jump, he jumps in reverse, which might seem unpredictable in terms of angles. Additionally, instead of just sweeping, the searchlights he emits will now point directly at you. If you find yourself exposed, just dash to one side to evade them or hide beneath a table for protection.
For this particular phase, I discovered that activating all power sources (generators) and essentially waiting for him to step into a puddle unintentionally was most effective. However, during the next phase, you should station yourself close to a puddle. The idea is that he might land backward into it, providing the desired outcome. Unfortunately, I couldn’t determine a consistent method to make him jump in one direction, so I just waited around with all generators on.
After he falls, engage with him one more time before the opportunity arises. When prompted, utilize the screwdriver again. I initially thought I overlooked something important during my first attempt, but now I’ll make sure to complete the task correctly. By thoroughly thumping him, you will have successfully defeated a truly unsettling drama teacher.
Save your lady and make your last daring escape, but remember, the game isn’t over just yet. Upon returning to the main selection screen, you’ll be told that you can now embark on the Amy’s Storyline. The Amy’s Storyline is less puzzle-focused and more focused on creating an atmosphere of suspense instead.

Instead of providing lengthy explanations for each lockpicking puzzle, I’ve compiled a set of visual guides to help you out when you encounter difficulties. Each image will be distinctly labeled, ensuring you can easily match them with their corresponding puzzles.
Shed lock puzzle
It required an unusually extended period for me to figure this out. To crack this code, head towards the right side of the structure (if you’re standing in front of it), and peer through the hole in the wall to uncover the back part of the locking system. This will give you a glimpse of some worn wood, revealing the pattern you should replicate. However, for those seeking a speedy resolution, the image provided below may assist you.
Shrine puzzle
The Shrine riddle is an enjoyable challenge since it allows you to vent some energy by smashing a few statues for a while. It serves as a great stress reliever following all the events that have transpired. To solve this puzzle, all you have to do is knock down the statues in the right sequence, but remember not to destroy the central statue (as it represents you!).
The poem printed below the shrine gives the following hints.
She resides alone, the focal point of admiration, yet surrounded by those who left her feeling chilled.
First to depart were her GRANDPARENTS, each pair from distinct languages and lands, saying their goodbyes.
Next was her FATHER, a man of self-interest, moving on to another family’s affection.
Her MOTHER, burdened by the weight of work, struggled to maintain their home.
Her BROTHER, swore to return but never did, leaving behind unfulfilled promises.
Lastly, her CRUSH, unable to stay, fled due to fear and couldn’t find a way out.

How to drain the bath
One potential issue you may encounter as you progress through this chapter is forgetting how to empty the bathtub once you’ve reached upstairs, which is purposefully designed to catch you off guard. To drain the bathtub, you’ll have to revisit the basement and switch off the water valve that you initially turned on earlier. A bit of an unexpected twist, and it’s easy to overlook this detail.
Suitcase combination puzzle
The suitcase in the upstairs bedroom is locked, and you can only really figure the solution by checking a seemingly innocuous place. In order to figure out the combination, you’ll need to head to Amy’s bedroom first to grab the batteries from her ‘GamePal‘.
After that, make your way to the study where you’ll find the grandfather clock and the radio. Engage with the radio by doing the following: Locate the battery panel on its right side, insert the batteries you retrieved from your room therein, and finally, switch it on and enjoy some tunes.
To unlock the suitcase, start by checking the shelf in the same room for the combination clue. Upon interacting with it, you’ll learn that your father enjoyed listening to blues music. Now, return to the radio and turn the dial on the left to find the blues station. The solution can be found in the frequency of this radio station. In this instance, it’s 939.
To put it simply, this chapter primarily delves into the emotional narrative of Amy’s family turmoil and loss, along with her escapades involving a terrifying cinematic beast. However, this doesn’t diminish the fact that it remains an exhilarating experience.
