Valorant update 9.08 patch notes: Gekko & Yoru changes, Sunset B site overhaul, more

As a seasoned VALORANT player with countless hours under my belt, I must say that the latest updates have me more excited than ever! The introduction of “Glitch”, our newest Team Deathmatch map, sounds like an electrifying addition to the arena. A dual-themed arena? Now that’s something I can’t wait to explore!

The 9.08 update for Valorant will feature modifications to both Gekko and Yoru, introduce a fresh Team Deathmatch map called Glitch, and make some adjustments to the B site in Sunset.

Every time Riot Games introduces a fresh Valorant update, it’s often a source of excitement. Whether it’s the introduction of new Agents, alterations to maps, or the debut of novel game modes – there is seldom a dull moment in the shooter’s update cycle.

In the realm of gaming, when it comes to version 9.08, it’s all about catering to everyone’s tastes. For agents like me, there are significant updates for both Yoru and Gekko. If you’ve been playing for more than a few rounds in Act 9, you know just how powerful Gekko has become, and it’s time for some adjustments to keep things balanced.

That’s not all, though. There are movement tweaks for both Skye and Jett – well, particularly on Ascent – and some changes to Sunset’s tricky B site. So, let’s get stuck into the patch notes.

Yoru & Gekko changes

It’s worth mentioning that the main modifications in this update concern Gekko and Yoru. Riot Games considers Gekko to be in good shape, but they aim to prevent characters like Dizzy from maintaining positions for extended periods.

Additionally, we’re examining the frequency of his releases, which is being adjusted. Specifically, the duration between events is decreasing from 20 seconds to 15 seconds, while the recovery period is extending to approximately 1.5 seconds.

Regarding Yoru, Riot is ensuring that his Fakeot works correctly with other agents. For instance, if you’re a Cypher player, selecting Neutral Theft will reveal the Fakeot decoy.

Sunset B site updates

If you’ve found the playstyle at Sunset’s B site frustrating, whether from a defensive or offensive perspective, rest assured, changes are on the way to address these issues.

The riot team is rearranging the barriers in the central corridor, taking some away from the exterior, and enhancing the overall layout with additional layers. In essence, this change aims to create a more strategic gameplay experience for both parties.

AGENT UPDATES

Gekko

Since you’ve become proficient with Gekko’s abilities following the 7.12 patch update, we’ve observed that his primary playstyle of deploying and retrieving his allies has minimal drawbacks. The modifications made to his globules now force Gekko to act swiftly in recovering them, and they also provide an opportunity for his adversaries to retaliate if he acts too impulsively.

As a dedicated fan, I’m excited to share that both Dizzy and Wingman will be receiving enhancements to boost their overall dependability. These upgrades aim to minimize instances where these allies seem to lock onto and debuff an enemy, only to discover the foe remains unaffected. The focus here is on rectifying inconsistent behavior rather than granting a direct power boost to Gekko.

As a gamer, I’ve been doing well in the shooting counterplay with Dizzy, but I find myself holding spaces and angles for too long which could be improved. Also, considering Gekko’s high number of plants and defuses in Wingman mode, Thrash seems to appear too frequently for its actual impact on the game.

It’s our hope that these modifications won’t drastically alter Gekko’s role within the ecosystem, but rather help establish a more beneficial and sustainable position for him over time.

  • Globules
    • Reduced time in world 20s >>> 15s
    • Reclaim time increased 1s >>> 1.5s
  • Dizzy
    • Time active after being thrown and forming is reduced 1.5s >>> 1s.
    • Dizzy’s targeting algorithm has been updated to be more reliable.
    • Dizzy’s goop flash now also blinds the minimap of affected players.
  • Wingman
    • Increased the angle of the cone concuss area 45 degrees >>> 65 degrees.
    • When Wingman turns into a globule after planting the Spike there are unique visuals.
  • Thrash
    • Ultimate points increased 7 >>> 8

Yoru

In Yoru’s Fakeout replica, different skills didn’t seem to have any impact, making it simple to distinguish it from the genuine Yoru. We are carefully examining each ability within the game to ensure they work correctly with Yoru’s Fakeout.

  • Blind abilities like Gekko’s Dizzy and Vyse’s Arc Rose will now display the blind effect on Yoru’s Fakeout clone as if he was a real Agent.
  • Vyse will play her Successful Blind celebration lines when blinding Yoru’s Fakeout clone.
  • Cypher’s Neural Theft will show the Yoru’s Fakeout clone.
  • Clove’s Meddle will now show the slow effect on Yoru’s Fakeout clone.

Skye and Jett

  • Jett’s Tailwind  and Skye’s Trailblazer will no longer stop at the window in Ascent. Instead, they will bust through and continue movement onto the other side.

COSMETICS UPDATES

  • We’ve made some updates to several scope reticles to make them more clean and less distracting. Here is the list of updated skins: Araxys Operator, Valiant Hero Operator, Reaver Operator, Gothic Marshal. Thanks to Derke for the feedback!

Introducing “Glitch”, VALORANT’s Newest Team Deathmatch Map

  • A 5v5 map that puts you in a dual-themed arena. This is the 5th TDM map and takes place in a “glitched out” Maxbot arena.
  • Glitch is playable via the “Team Deathmatch” game mode queue.

Map Rotations

  • Pearl and Split are BACK in the COMPETITIVE QUEUE
  • Icebox and Lotus are OUT of the COMPETITIVE QUEUE

Sunset

We’re making modifications to Sunset’s B Site to enhance its security, improve gameplay options, and make it more manageable during the post-plant phase. The high pressure on B Main pivot box during the post-plant stage was noticeable, so we’ve decided to streamline the cover in that area for better handling by retakers. While you can still play at B Main during the post-plant phase, it should now be less challenging. Additionally, a specific Cypher trip has been eliminated with these adjustments.
