As a long-time follower of Masahiro Sakurai‘s journey in game development, I find myself both excited and puzzled by his recent announcement. After spending years honing his craft with the beloved Super Smash Bros. series, it’s intriguing to see him venturing into uncharted territory.
Masahiro Sakurai, the mastermind behind Super Smash Bros., manages a YouTube channel titled “Masahiru Sakurai’s Game Creation Journey.” On this platform, he shares insights from his past experiences and career in game development, and offers valuable tips for aspiring game creators.
The channel has been running for the past two years, but today he published a final video called “Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games: Finale Special,” where he announced that the channel would be ending.
Besides unveiling this news, Sakurai also had more surprises up his sleeve. He disclosed that he’d received a game development proposal as early as July 2021, hinting that the announcement of this project will happen “at some point.
At this point, the developer didn’t have much more to disclose, but what was shared ignited discussions among fans. In a video statement, Sakurai expressed his regrets about not being able to reveal more details about the project, stating, “Although I can’t share extensive information right now, if everything goes well, we might be announcing it sometime in the future.
Masahiro Sakurai completed his last project with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and its final downloadable character, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, was released in 2021. At this time, it’s uncertain if Sakurai is working on another game within the Smash Bros. series or something completely new and distinct.
