Onza Distribution Inks Further Sales on Alfredo Castro-Led ‘Allende, The Thousand Days,’ ‘Heartless,’ ‘Flowers Over the Inferno’

As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of international television, I can confidently say that these recent acquisitions by Onza Distribution have only served to broaden the horizons of global storytelling. The intrigue and depth of productions like “Allende, The Thousand Days,” “Heartless,” and “Flowers Over the Inferno” are a testament to the power of narrative in bridging cultural divides and igniting our collective imagination.

At the bustling Mipcom event, I’m proud to be part of Onza Distribution, a dynamic company with branches in Madrid and Miami. We’ve successfully sealed deals for several top-tier titles with Portugal, Romania, Croatia, Latvia, and Mozambique, expanding our reach even further.

Among the productions that have been included in recent deals are the Chilean drama “Allende, The Thousand Days”, the Onza-produced thriller “Heartless” and its comedy “Traffic Jam”, as well as the renowned Italian mini-series “Flowers Over the Inferno”. Additionally, telenovelas such as “Cacao”, “The Value of Life” and “Forever” are also part of these agreements. Portugal’s RTP and Romania’s Antenaplay have made significant investments, each securing several acquisitions.

In a surprising move, the eight-episode psychological thriller titled “Heartless” by Onza, which ranked second on Prime Video Spain upon its premiere, has been obtained by RTP, Portugal’s public broadcasting service, and Antenaplay, a streaming platform affiliated with Romania’s Antena TV Group. The storyline revolves around a cunning criminal who terrorizes wealthy businessmen in Madrid, abducting them and subjecting them to cruel torment, while relentless investigators pursue the case.

After earlier sales to other networks, “Allende, The Thousand Days” was acquired by Portugal’s Canais TVCine (NOS). Previously, OCS secured the rights for France. The series premiered on Chile’s TVN as well. A joint production between Parox from Chile (“Invisible Heroes”), Mediterráneo Media Entertainment from Spain, and Aleph, Mente Colectiva, and HD Argentina from Argentina, the show stars Alfredo Castro, who won a Platino Award for his role, from “El Conde”. Over four hour-long episodes, the drama chronicles the three-year term of Salvador Allende in Chile, ending with the 1973 military coup and the subsequent brutal Pinochet dictatorship.

Leonora González, the producer-showrunner of Parox, expressed that condensing a complex historical era into just four episodes was quite a formidable task. She suggested that if they had made three seasons, each consisting of 12 episodes, there would still be untold stories remaining.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that “Flowers Over the Inferno,” a gripping crime drama produced by the esteemed Italian independent studio Publispei (known for “I Cesaroni”), will grace our screens with its second season on RAI1 starting October 28. This highly anticipated season has recently been added to Onza Distribution’s lineup ahead of Mipcom.

In Romania, Antenaplay surpassed the six-episode comedy series ‘Traffic Jam’ by Onza, boasting 25 top-notch Spanish comedians. Debuting at No. 1 on Prime Video Spain, this show revolves around a traffic jam that affects countless citizens’ plans. As suggested in its summary, the narrative offers humorous, surprising, and emotional twists along the road.

Ultimately, the Croatian broadcasting company HRT took advantage of the Portuguese title “Cacao,” as the show was scheduled to be aired in 70 countries, such as Spain (MediaSet España) and Lithuania, among others.

The TVI soap opera “Forever,” winner of the Best Telenovela at the Venice TV Awards in 2023, has been purchased by Latvia’s Helio Media. Meanwhile, the thought-provoking series “Value of Life” is set to debut on Mozambican airwaves soon. In this soap opera, the protagonist uncovers that her real father is the proprietor of the cocoa farm where she resides, making her an heir and sparking jealousy among his other children.
