Ubisoft Cancels Assassin's Creed Shadows Early Access

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the latest twist in the Assassin’s Creed Shadows saga has left me both intrigued and a tad disheartened. Having eagerly anticipated this game since its announcement, the prospect of a delay, albeit for polishing and cultural sensitivity, is a bitter pill to swallow.

If Assassin’s Creed: Shadow had followed its original plan, it would have been out in about a month. However, the game was delayed and is now set for an early 2025 launch. Unfortunately, those who buy the Assassin’s Creed: Shadows collector’s edition will not receive early access to the game.

According to Insider Gaming, Ubisoft has announced that it is canceling early access for Assassin’s Creed Shadows during a Discord question-and-answer session. Additionally, the company stated that they will not continue with their plans to introduce season passes for this game. As a result, the cost of the collector’s edition of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will decrease from $280 to $230. This collector’s edition will still include a steelbook, an artbook, a statue, and other items, but there may be changes to these products before the official release.

The report suggests that these late modifications might stem from challenges faced by Ubisoft in ensuring historical authenticity and cultural sensitivity, which were cited as factors contributing to the game’s delay in a previous report. Moreover, Ubisoft Quebec, the developers of Shadows, asked for additional time to perfect the game prior to its launch.

It has been rumored that Ubisoft Quebec could introduce a cooperative mode into Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This speculation suggests that two players might simultaneously play as the game’s twin protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. However, considering the game’s delay, it is possible that this feature may not be available at launch.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will hit PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 14, 2025.
