As a longtime Dead by Daylight enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and patience as we wait for the movie adaptation. Having been a part of this community for quite some time, I’ve seen our shared passion for the game grow from a small niche to a thriving horror survival experience.
According to its creator, Jason Blum (founder of Blumhouse Productions), the upcoming Dead by Daylight movie has received a highly encouraging update. Although the release date hasn’t been announced yet, production is underway.
When asked by Comicbook.com about the production status of the Dead by Daylight movie, he responded that they are currently focusing on perfecting the script. He emphasized that films aren’t scheduled until the script is just right, citing the example of Five Nights at Freddy’s which took 10 years to produce, and noting that one reason for its success was their dedication to getting it right over a decade-long period.
Blum elaborated on the studio’s triumph with Five Nights at Freddy’s, stating that creating the movie was a laborious process that required extensive time and effort. Similarly, he hinted, the development of Dead by Daylight may span anywhere between one year to five years.
He expressed his hope for a script that truly resonates with them, as they’re currently developing one. The timeline for completion could span anywhere from five years to a year – it’s hard to predict. Movie production can only begin when the script is perfected, and it’s uncertain how long that process will take.
The Dead by Daylight Movie is still being worked on, so there’s no set release date yet. Fans can keep an eye out for future updates though, as progress continues to be made. Last year, Blumhouse started searching for a director and screenwriter, but the identities of these roles have not been revealed just yet. The movie is being produced by James Wan from Atomic Monster, Jason Blum from Blumhouse, and Stephen Mulrooney, who is an executive vice president at Behaviour Interactive.
In a conversation with Variety, it was stated that at Behaviour, our philosophy is to design extraordinary experiences that last a lifetime. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are perfectly suited to bring Dead by Daylight’s thrilling debut to the silver screen, as Mulrooney explained when the film was first announced.
