“He’s Asked Us All to Be Quiet.” Malcolm in the Middle Actress Revealed What Happened to Dewey Actor After the Sitcom Ended

As a fan who fondly remembers the hilarious antics of Dewey on “Malcolm in the Middle,” it’s always bittersweet to see the cast move on from their television roles. Erik Per Sullivan, who brought Dewey to life so brilliantly, has chosen a path less traveled – one that leads through the pages of Charles Dickens rather than the bright lights of Hollywood.

In the early 21st century, Malcolm in the Middle emerged victorious on television. This popular sitcom followed the escapades of a gifted adolescent navigating through his unconventional family life. After six fruitful years and seven seasons, the team behind the TV show concluded their work.

Some members of the cast went on to have varying levels of career success, however, it’s worth noting that others decided to step away from acting. For instance, Erik Per Sullivan, who portrayed Dewey in Malcolm in the Middle, chose to leave the industry after his role. His most recent appearance was in the movie Twelve back in 2010.

During an interview with Malcolm France’s YouTube channel focused on the sitcom, Jane Kaczmarek (who played Lois) discussed updates regarding the actor who portrayed Dewey. Moreover, she revealed that Sullivan has expressed no intentions of returning to acting.

He’s doing exceptionally well… He worked on Malcolm for seven years, starting at age 7 and finishing at 14. Acting didn’t appeal to him in the slightest. He attends a highly regarded American university that he prefers us not to disclose, and he has a deep affection for Charles Dickens. His studies focus on Victorian literature during his graduate program. I respect it because many people believe that show business is the pinnacle of success, but it’s not for everyone.

Initially a child actor, Sullivan later chose to depart from that profession. He had no desire to continue in the industry he once belonged to, fully detaching himself by 2010. As Kaczmarek admitted, he is now immersed in studying Victorian literature and seems content with his current life, expressing no intention of reappearing on screen.
