Twitch streamer Frogan apologizes for US soldier comments after backlash

As a veteran who has served my country with honor and integrity, I find Frogan’s remarks to be deeply offensive and disrespectful. It is unacceptable for anyone, especially someone with a platform as large as hers, to wish harm upon our soldiers who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms.

Streamer Frogan has offered an apology following criticism, as she expressed a regretful sentiment about U.S. troops developing PTSD during a live broadcast.

Around mid-October, Twitch broadcaster Frogan (also recognized as a chat moderator for prominent streamer Hasan) faced criticism following remarks she made concerning U.S. soldiers on the streaming platform.

The streamer expressed no compassion towards soldiers, further stating that she wished individuals in the U.S. would experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

“And I hope you get no health insurance when you get back to America,” she continued.

The remarks made by Frogan quickly gained widespread attention, prompting numerous individuals to urge Twitch to impose a ban, much in the same way as Asmongold was when he spoke about Palestinians.

“Twitch, you banned Asmongold, so I assume you’ll be consistent, right?” one asked.

“Twitch frequently bans users for seemingly trivial misbehavior. It’s puzzling why they haven’t removed this platform yet!” Another user agreed, expressing surprise.

It was noted by others that “veteran status” is considered a protected trait according to Twitch’s own community rules, and they think that Frogan may have breached the platform’s policies against harmful behavior.

Serious medical condition, veteran status. This is their own tos.

On Twitch, actions driven by hatred, bias, or intolerance are not allowed. This includes any content that incites or supports discrimination, belittlement, bullying, harassment, or violence based on various characteristics such as race, ethnicity, skin color, nationality, immigration status, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, serious health conditions, and military background,” Twitch’s community guidelines explain.

With Frogan’s remarks causing a stir, the streamer clarified their stance regarding the backlash on X, explaining that they did not intend to imply that all military personnel were included in their statement.

She acknowledged that the start of the video wasn’t clear and she regretted any confusion caused. She further explained that she understands now that expressing harm towards others isn’t constructive when discussing difficult topics, and she should have approached these subjects with more sensitivity instead.

The U.S. military has been accused of committing some of the worst human rights violations in recent history in nations such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. I’m upset with those who are now justifying these alleged war crimes, claiming they were acts of “liberation” instead…

So far, Frogan’s Twitch account remains active.

Although the platform didn’t explicitly mention Frogan, it did issue a statement on October 20 addressing worries that its community rules weren’t being enforced consistently across all content creators.

As a dedicated gamer, I ensure our guidelines are upheld uniformly, and I’m diligently monitoring content for any violations. When necessary, I promptly take action to maintain a fair and enjoyable gaming environment for all users. In regards to signing up restrictions for specific regions, I’m currently working on ensuring a smooth registration process for everyone.
