What are ritual activities?
In Destiny 2, the activities classified as rituals offer enduring content that consistently awards potent and top-tier equipment upon finishing diverse daily and weekly tasks. Essentially, each category is tailored for Player versus Environment (PvE), Player versus Player (PvP), or a blend of both (PvEvP). Here’s an overview of all three types:
Vanguard Ops
As a devout Guardian with a soft spot for PvE, I’m particularly thrilled about Vanguard Ops. It offers a relaxed take on Strikes, perfect for those who prefer a more leisurely pace. But for those seeking a challenge, there are tougher versions of these missions that change weekly, aptly named Nightfalls. Lastly, the new wave-based base defense activity called Onslaught, which made its debut in Into the Light, adds an exciting layer to the mix.

- Nightfall: Tougher versions of standard Strikes that include various difficulty modifiers. One Strike is available per week.
- Vanguard Ops: Core activity. Casual-friendly playlist that includes Strikes and similar content from previous seasons.
- Grandmaster Nightfall: Tough endgame content that awards exclusive Adept versions of weapons dropped in Nightfalls. Usually unlocked several weeks into a new season.
- Onslaught: Playlist: 10-wave base defense mode that drops BRAVE weapons.

The Crucible
Engaging in battles with others truly sparks excitement, as you challenge your abilities against competitors. The Crucible offers a wide range of PvP experiences, including relaxed modes like Control and Rumble, as well as intense competitive events such as the Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner.

- Competitive (3v3 Ranked): Unlike Trials of Osiris, Competitive is available as a permanent playlist option. Participants are ranked based on performance at the end of every match and can earn rewards not available elsewhere.
- 6v6 Unranked: The go-to activity if you’re looking for casual PvP. While the ruleset can change, Control is usually the current game type.
- 6v6 Quickplay: Same team composition as 6v6 Unranked, offering a different option for anyone looking for a varied ruleset.
- Crucible Labs: Experimental playlist where Bungie tests new rulesets and game modes.
- Free for All: All against all fun-focused mode.
- Private Match: Guardians can set up their own matches with custom rules here.
- Trials of Osiris: Pinnacle 3v3 PvP activity with exclusive rewards. Achieving an unbroken streak of seven match wins grants access to The Lighthouse. Available from Friday to Tuesday when active.
- Iron Banner: Pinnacle 6v6 PvP activity with exclusive rewards. Available for two weeks when active.
Gambit
In Gambit, players engage in a unique mix of Player versus Environment (PvE) and Player versus Player (PvP). Essentially, it’s a competition between two teams of four, where the objective is to fill your team’s bank with Motes quickly and defeat the boss more swiftly than the opposing team. Each team plays in their own separate instance, but they interact through two main methods: Blockers and invasions.
Gathering and storing a certain amount of Enemy Motes will bring up Barriers on their side, stopping them from adding their own Motes to the bank.
When specific deposit limits are met, a gateway for attacking the enemy team will become accessible. Any Guardian who ventures past this limit gets a temporary chance to eliminate members of the opposing team as much as possible before being transported back home. Scoring kills during the closing stages restores the health of the enemy’s boss, prolonging the time needed for your team to secure victory.
