As a cinephile with a penchant for the macabre and a soft spot for emerging talents, this news about Colin Tilley’s feature debut, “Eye for an Eye,” has me absolutely thrilled! With a background in music videos and a roster that reads like a who’s-who of contemporary pop icons, Tilley seems poised to bring a fresh perspective to the horror genre.

Colin Tilley’s first film, a highly-anticipated project from the well-known music video director, will be marketed during the upcoming American Film Market.

“Eye for an Eye,” a chilling revenge horror, set amidst the haunting Florida marshlands and featuring Whitney Peak known for her roles in “Gossip Girl” and “Hocus Pocus 2”, will be released commercially by HanWay Films, handling international distribution. Domestic sales are being managed by WME Independent.

Starring alongside Peak, we have S. Epatha Merkerson, known for “Chicago Med” and “Lackawanna Blues.” The ensemble also features Golda Rosheuvel, recognized in “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” and “Dune,” Finn Bennett from “True Detective: Night Country” and “Domina,” as well as newcomer Laken Giles. Jenny Jue, known for her work on “Snowpiercer” and “Okja,” handled the casting. The script was written by Elisa Victoria, a writer and artist who focuses on classic folklore and pop culture artifacts, based on one of her own graphic novels titled “Mr. Sandman.

The movie, filmed last summer in the marshy regions of Savannah, Georgia, is characterized as adopting a “fantastic, dreamlike, and terrifying portrayal” to depict the authenticity of bullying and reveal the concealed effects it may inflict on those nearby.

Originally titled “Somewhere in Dreamland,” the movie was brought to life by Ley Line Entertainment, known for productions such as “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Green Knight.” The team of Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, Rachael Fung, and Nate Kamiya took on producer roles. Meanwhile, David Darby, Lauren Shelton, Elisa Victoria, and Susan Kirr served as executive producers for this project.

Tilley has overseen the direction of more than 300 music videos featuring artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Zendaya, Megan Thee Stallion, 50 Cent, and Britney Spears. In November 2021, he was recognized at Camerimage for his outstanding work in the music video genre.
