‘Downton Abbey’ Alum Hugh Bonneville Joins Espionage Thriller ‘The Agency’ at Showtime (EXCLUSIVE)

According to our exclusive sources, Hugh Bonneville will make a special appearance in the forthcoming spy-political drama series titled “The Agency,” streaming on Paramount+ and Showtime.

Previously mentioned, the show is adapted from the French series “The Bureau of Legends,” titled “Le Bureau des Legendes.” Notably, Colin Bonneville will join the already announced cast members including Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Katherine Waterston, John Magaro, Alex Reznik, Andrew Brooke, Harriet Sansom Harris, India Fowler, Saura Lightfoot-Leon, Reza Brojerdi, and Richard Gere. The production is underway in London at the moment.

According to the given logline, this series centers around “Fassbender’s character, a secret CIA operative, who is forced to give up his undercover work and return to London headquarters. A rekindled romance with someone from his past complicates matters. The tension between his personal feelings and professional obligations leads them into a dangerous world of international espionage and intrigue.

James Richardson, a seasoned British agent with a deep-rooted past on Mars, is set to make an appearance in Bonneville.

Bonneville is best known for his starring role in the hit drama series “Downton Abbey,” in which he played Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, throughout the show’s run. He reprised the role in both of the “Downton Abbey” films, with a third film due out in September 2025. His other TV credits include “Twenty Twelve,” “W1A,” “Douglas Is Cancelled,” and “The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.” He has also starred in both “Paddington” films and will also star in the third, as well as “Notting Hill,” “Iris,” and “The Monuments Men.”

Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth serve as writers and producers, while Joe Wright takes on the roles of executive producer and director for the initial two episodes.
