As a gamer with years of Counter-Strike experience under my belt, I must say that the return of s1mple to competitive play is nothing short of exhilarating! I remember watching him dominate the scene back in the day, and it’s fascinating to see him make a comeback.
Previously in September, we shared news about Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev, a renowned Ukrainian AWPer often hailed as the Greatest of All Time in Counter-Strike, agreeing to rejoin competitive play with Saudi Arabian team Team Falcons. This contract is a three-month loan from NAVI.
Apart from aiming to participate in the Perfect World Shanghai Major via the European RMR, Team Falcons’ event with s1mple isn’t limited to just one competition. In fact, this will be his first return to competitive CS:2 since a year-long break, making it an exciting moment for both fans and himself.
When does s1mple play his first match? That’s set for the ESL Challenger Katowice 2024 tournament. In this event, eight teams will face off, with a $100,000 prize pool at stake. The winner of this competition secures a spot in ESL Pro League Season 21.
This upcoming gathering, happening at the ESL Studio in Katowice, Poland, is a LAN event organized by ESL. The event will unfold from October 25th to October 27th, 2024.
s1mple's first match is in Group A of the ESL Challenger Katowice 2024, as Team Falcons is set to face SAW on 25 October 2024 at 13:00 CET.
The event kicks off with a Group Phase structured as two GSL-style groups containing four teams each. In these groups, the initial and victorious matches take place in a best-of-one format, while all other contests are best-of-three. Here’s how the teams are distributed across the groups:
Group A Teams:
- Team Falcons
- SAW
- Eternal Fire
- B8
Group B Teams:
- paiN Gaming
- MIBR
- Monte
- Legacy
In a nutshell, the first and second placed teams from every group move forward to the single-elimination tournament format, which features best-of-three series in all their matches.
