Streaming sensation Valkyrae disagrees with fans drawing similarities between her and Pokimane, attributing the likeness to both of them being active within the same gaming industry.
Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter is a well-known female streamer online, however, her fame frequently leads to comparisons with another notable figure in the field – Pokimane.
During a live YouTube stream on October 17th, Valkyrae made some remarks when a viewer in her subreddit posed the question, “Why do you resemble Pokimane?
She enthusiastically declared, ‘I’m actually of German-Filipino descent!’ With wavy locks cascading down her back, she pointed out Poki’s curly hair and expressed her belief that they don’t share a resemblance. She finds it flattering to be compared to the stunning Poki, yet admits it’s puzzling to her.
I believe the reason people often say we resemble each other is primarily due to the fact that we’re both streamers. However, Poki is not Asian; she’s Moroccan. To me, there seems to be no physical similarity. If we were in different professions or if she were in a different field, I don’t think comparisons would be made between us. It appears that these people assume we look alike because we both stream.
Despite taking issue with the comparisons, Valkyrae continued to assert that she felt it was a major compliment. However, fans have a different opinion, with one writing on YouTube: “Twins… I think Rae is gaslighting.”
One person commented on ‘subtle resemblances’ between the two, likening it to looking at pictures next to each other where, if you slightly squint, you might just notice some similarities.
On previous occasions, Rae has expressed disagreement when being likened to other female streamers – an event that took place in August saw her respond to a viewer by stating “She seems to think she’s Jodi,” due to the fact that she dyed her hair purple.
“I find it peculiar when I color my hair and get compared to other women due to this. It seems as if every woman has hair, so… It’s almost like, what else should I be doing differently?
