New Karate Kid Film Gets Legendary Title And Official Poster

As a gamer who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, the news of the new Karate Kid movie, Karate Kid Legends, has sent my heart racing with nostalgia! I can still remember the thrill of watching Ralph Macchio kick some serious cobra kai butt as Daniel Larusso. And let’s not forget the iconic moments between him and Jackie Chan’s Mr. Miyagi!

In November last year, it was announced that Ralph Macchio, famed for his role in Karate Kid, along with martial arts legend Jackie Chan from the 2010 remake, are set to continue the Karate Kid storyline. The new film, titled Karate Kid Legends, will be helmed by director Johnathan Entwistle, recognized mainly for his work on television shows like I’m Not Okay With This and The End of the F***ing World. Rob Lieber is responsible for writing the screenplay.

The upcoming movie marks the sixth film in the Karate Kid series, following three movies featuring Ralph Macchio as Daniel Larusso. These were succeeded by “The Next Karate Kid” starring Hillary Swank, as well as a remake. In this latest adaptation, Jaden Smith plays a character similar to Daniel, named Dre, while Jackie Chan steps into the role previously held by Mr. Miyagi, now known as Mr. Han.

Legends are forever.

On Friday morning, the official Twitter account for The Karate Kid unveiled a new poster and announced they would be presenting a panel at New York Comic Con later in the day. Emerging talent Ben Wang, known for his role in 2024’s Mean Girls, will assume the lead role this time. Additionally, Joshua Jackson and Ming-Na Wen are also part of the cast for this upcoming film.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super hyped about “Karate Kid Legends”! This fresh take on the franchise will transport us to the vibrant east coast of the US and introduce us to a Chinese teenager embarking on an extraordinary journey of martial arts training under a gruff yet enlightened master. Originally slated for release this year, this epic tale is now set to hit the big screen exclusively on May 30th. Can’t wait!

Prior to its release, Netflix’s Cobra Kai is expected to conclude its current run, and it’s important to note that this popular series will not have a direct connection to the Karate Kid Legends.
