McDonald’s finally brings back the McRib but everyone has the same thought

As a die-hard fan who’s been craving the McRib since its departure from U.S. menus way back in 2005, I can’t help but feel a twinge of envy towards my UK counterparts. The McRib’s triumphant return across the pond has sent waves of excitement and anticipation rippling through the global McRib community, myself included.

The long-awaited McRib sandwich has returned to McDonald’s menus, however, disappointingly, it is currently exclusive to the United Kingdom. Those who have managed to get their hands on it in the UK are expressing the same sentiment.

The McRib sandwich, first removed from the menu in 2005, remains one of the most frequently asked items to be reintroduced. It made short comebacks in the U.S. during 2022 for a “farewell tour”, and it resurfaced again in 2023.

The chain has played into the hype and rumors, which started back in the summer after McDonald’s US President Joe Erlinger confirmed McRib would return at some point in 2024.

In the United Kingdom, there were issues with a popular app that caused it to malfunction, leading to a message being sent to millions of users on October 16, 2024, stating “McRib_test.notificiation_16.10.24.” Remarkably, this prediction turned out to be accurate, as the McRib sandwich returned to restaurants in the UK on that very date.

It’s only going to be on the menu for a limited time, but the exact end date hasn’t been announced.

McDonald’s finally brings back the McRib but everyone has the same thought

To date, it has achieved its desired outcome, as hordes of fans have been drawn to the establishment, eagerly sampling a timeless favorite, many doing so for the very first time or after a long absence of more than ten years.

Although there’s been a lot of enthusiasm, it’s worth noting that some people have expressed letdowns due to insufficient sauce, which appears to be less abundant than suggested in promotional materials.

Hi McDonaldsUK, I’m a bit puzzled. The ad photo shows a pristine McRib, but mine seems quite different with a sauce drip. I was expecting something closer to the picture. Could you explain this discrepancy? I’m not entirely satisfied with my purchase.

UK-based food vlogger, often known as Bald Foodie Guy, shared his feelings of disappointment, despite acknowledging the generous size of the pork patty. He expressed that he had anticipated the patty to be smothered in sauce, as he put it, “I thought the pork patty would be drenched in sauce, as I mentioned earlier.

“It definitely needs more sauce, more pickles, and more onion in it.”

Another UK customer asked the same: “Where is all the sauce? Where is all the intense flavor?”

Dear @McDonaldsUK, I must express my disappointment. The sauce and intense flavor seem to be missing from the McRib experience this time around. The long-awaited return of the McRib feels lackluster compared to our expectations, much like Star Wars Episode 1. Let’s hope for a better sequel next time, #McRib fans are eagerly waiting!

When is McRib coming to the US?

Although it may seem that UK customers are currently enjoying a special treat with the return of the McRib, take heart because McDonald’s has confirmed that the McRib will also make its way onto US menus later this year as well.

In July, Joe Erlinger, President of McDonald’s USA, stated on the Today show that a specific date for future events could not be confirmed at that time, but it was expected to occur at some point in 2024.

Given there’s only a couple of months left of the year, there can’t be too long to wait.

However, based on the UK version’s experience, US consumers might be anticipating a slightly heavier application of McRib sauce upon its return.
