How Kelli Giddish Returned to ‘Law & Order: SVU’ in Season 26

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for long-running series, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgic excitement whenever Kelli Giddish reappears on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Her character, Detective Amanda Rollins, has been a staple for many years, and her return is always a welcome sight.

Kelli Giddish has come back yet again to “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” having left her role as a main cast member in 2022.

In the episode named “Divide & Conquer,” which is part of Season 26, Detective Amanda Rollins makes her return. This reintroduction is particularly touching as she meets up once again with her past partner, Olivia Benson, portrayed by Mariska Hargitay.

In the 24th season of NBC’s crime drama, Rollins got married to ADA Dominick Carisi Jr., portrayed by Peter Scanavino, and subsequently left her role at the Special Victims Unit to take up a teaching position at Fordham University. She reappeared as a guest star in an episode during Season 24 and in two episodes in Season 25.

Returning for its 26th season, Rollins has moved up the ranks and is currently serving as a sergeant within New York Police Department’s Intelligence Bureau.

Sergeant!” Benson exclaims as they hug in the corridor, “It looks like your initial city-wide meeting in the intelligence unit is coming up, isn’t it?

“Captain,” Rollins says sweetly. “Yeah, last time I was at one of these things was with you.”

Later on, Rollins presents Benson to her latest work companion, Detective Corgan, portrayed by John Clarence Stewart. Curious, Benson inquires about Rollins’ thoughts on their new assignment.

In a not misunderstood manner, Rollins expresses his affection for it: ‘It’s like listening in on the world,’ he says. I appreciate you advocating for me and guiding me towards the right path. The extended work hours have kept me away from my family, but what I’ve missed even more is reconnecting with myself.

Benson replies proudly, “It is so good to see this version of you again.”

Prior to the upcoming episode, Giddish hinted that we haven’t seen the last of Rollins in Entertainment Weekly’s interview. She mentioned that a unique and extraordinary episode awaits us where you’ll get to see her again.

Regarding the possibility of complications in her happy life due to Rollins returning to police work, Giddish stated that “No, she is happily married and has a new baby, making her a mother of three. Her relationship with her mom seems to be improving, and her bond with Benson continues to develop. With such a stable family life and Carisi by her side, she feels more empowered to make confident decisions about her life. I don’t foresee any trouble for her, but things are different now because she is no longer a detective in the Special Victims Unit.

Initially, Giddish made her debut on “SVU” in 2007, portraying Kara Bawson, a sexual assault survivor. Later, she reappeared in 2011 and took on the role of Det. Amanda Rollins, a main character that continued till Season 24, which aired in 2022. Over the course of these seasons, Giddish has been featured in a total of 258 episodes of the crime drama.
