Hulu Acquires Holiday Comedy ‘Nutcrackers’ Starring Ben Stiller

As a movie critic with a penchant for heartwarming comedies and a soft spot for films that delve into family dynamics, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on David Gordon Green’s latest offering, “Nutcrackers”. This film, which will be streaming exclusively on Hulu from Nov 29, promises to be a delightful addition to the holiday season lineup.

The hilarious comedy “Nutcrackers” by Ben Stiller is now owned by Hulu, and it will be available for streaming only on their platform within the United States starting November 29.

The broadcaster obtained global permission to show the movie, which was helmed by David Gordon Green. Green boasts an extensive resume in directing, including projects like the “Halloween” series, “Pineapple Express,” “The Exorcist: Believer,” “Vice Principals,” and “The Righteous Gemstones.

The movie’s tagline hints at ‘Nutcrackers’ being a warm-hearted comedy that centers around Mike (Stiller), a rigid and workaholic individual, who finds himself unexpectedly in charge of his energetic, orphaned nephews.

Alongside Stiller, the cast consists of Linda Cardellini (known for “No Good Deed” and “Dead to Me”), Edi Patterson (“The Righteous Gemstones”), Tim Heidecker (“Us”), and Toby Huss (“Dickinson”). The roles of Stiller’s nephews will be portrayed by newcomers and real-life siblings, Homer, Ulysses, Atlas, and Arlo Janson. “Nutcrackers” was filmed on the Janson family farm in Ohio, as well as at their dance studio. The movie was inspired to be made by Green, a friend of Karey Williams (the mother of the Janson family).

The movie was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and it’s set to be globally available on Disney+ shortly.

In its review at TIFF, Indiewire stated, “It’s delightful to observe Green freely expressing himself, skillfully blending some of his preferred aspects (talented young actors, sharp comedic wit, rural landscapes, and an authentic warmth that’s challenging to feign) to create a film that seems as fulfilling for his spirit as it is for the viewers.

As a movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on “Nutcrackers,” a captivating production financed entirely by Rivulet Films. Rob Paris, Mike Witherill, and Nate Meyer from Rough House have skillfully taken up the producer’s mantle for this film. The engaging script was crafted in collaboration between Rough House and writer Leland Douglas, whose previous work includes “Call of the Wild.
