‘Parish’ Canceled After One Season at AMC

As a seasoned critic with a keen eye for quality storytelling and a soft spot for gripping dramas, I find myself deeply disappointed by the untimely demise of “Parish.” The series, which boasted an illustrious cast led by the incomparable Giancarlo Esposito, seemed to have all the makings of a captivating and enduring tale.

AMC has canceled the drama series “Parish” after just one season, EbMaster has confirmed.

The six-part television show made its premiere on AMC in March, and it was an adaptation of the BBC One series “The Driver.” In this American version, Giancarlo Esposito played the leading role.

AMC expressed great pride in ‘Parish’ and appreciation for the extraordinary creative skills displayed by its team, notably Giancarlo Esposito, Skeet Ulrich, and the entire cast. Regrettably, we can’t move forward with a second season, but fans can continue to enjoy season one on AMC+, whether revisiting the exhilarating journey or experiencing it for the first time.

In this story, Esposito plays the role of Gracian “Gray” Parish, a loving family man and proprietor of an upscale car service in New Orleans. Tragedy strikes when his son is brutally killed and his business crumbles, causing him to reconnect with an old associate from his wheelman days. This reunion reignites Gray’s past habits, leading him headlong into a dangerous game against a ruthless criminal organization.

Besides Esposito, the actors who joined the cast were Zachary Momoh, Paula Malcomson, Skeet Ulrich, Bonnie Mbuili, Ivan Mbakop, Arica Himmel, Dax Rey, Bradley Whitford, and Amanda Brugel.

The show ‘The Driver’ was developed by Danny Brocklehurst and Jim Poyser. Brocklehurst is the creator of ‘Parish’, and he serves as an executive producer for this series. Eduardo Canto and Ryan Maldonado take on the roles of showrunners and executive producers. Besides acting in the series, Esposito also executively produces it. Poyser, along with Jolyon Symonds, David Morrissey from Scribbler Films, Josh Kesselman, Danny Sherman, Barry Jossen, Tana Jamieson, Theo Travers, and Red Production’s Nicola Shindler, are the executive producers. ‘The Driver’ is produced by AMC Studios, in collaboration with A+E Studios and Thruline Entertainment.

Two AMC shows featuring actors from “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” including the recently premiered series, have been canceled after only one season. Earlier in 2023, “Lucky Hank,” another drama starring Bob Odenkirk, was also terminated by the network.

TVLine first reported the cancellation.
