‘Rick and Morty’ Renewed Through Season 12 at Adult Swim

As a lifelong fan of animated series, this news about “Rick and Morty” being renewed for two more seasons has me practically vibrating with excitement! Since I first stumbled upon this gem back in Season 1, it’s been an unparalleled joy to follow the adventures of Rick and Morty through the multiverse.

The popular series “Rick and Morty” has been given a green light for two additional seasons on Adult Swim, taking the eccentric scientist-grandson pair all the way up to Season 12.

Since it’s been confirmed that Season 8 will air in 2025, and Season 10 was announced as early as 2023, the approval for Season 12 means that the award-winning animated show will continue running until at least 2029.

The executive producers Dan Harmon and Scott Marder revealed the news during their appearance at the “Rick and Morty” New York Comic Con panel on Thursday. They were accompanied by regular cast members Harry Belden, Ian Cardoni, Sarah Chalke, Spencer Grammer, and Chris Parnell.

The panel was given a sneak peek at an animatic for an episode from Season 8, which will air next year.

Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, commented that starting from Season One, “Rick and Morty” has raised the bar for adult animation and continues to impress. He added that creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, along with their incredibly skilled team, consistently surpass expectations, leaving him, as well as millions of fans worldwide, eagerly anticipating future escapades in the coming years.

Harmon mentioned that nobody desires a universe devoid of Rick and Morty,” he said. “Luckily, there’s an endless list of destinations still to explore.

In Season 5, Marder stepped into the role of showrunner and expressed his gratitude for the series being renewed past the initially announced Season 10. He excitedly declared, “Rick and Morty – a century-long journey, eternal!” in an official statement.

The series “Rick and Morty” centers around the dynamic duo of Rick Sanchez, a world-weary scientific genius, and his shy grandson Morty Smith. As they juggle their domestic responsibilities, they also set off on extraordinary journeys across different dimensions using Rick’s spaceship.

The animated series “Rick and Morty” was initially developed by Harmon and Justin Roiland, with Roiland providing voices for both main characters, Rick and Morty. However, following his arrest on charges of felony domestic battery and false imprisonment in 2023, as well as allegations of inappropriate behavior towards minors on social media, Roiland was dismissed from the show. In October 2023, it was revealed that Ian Cardoni would replace Roiland as the voice actor for Rick, while Harry Belden stepped into the role of Morty. The criminal charges against Roiland were eventually dropped due to lack of substantial evidence.
