CoD developers admit RICOCHET Anti-Cheat incorrectly banned accounts

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit, this latest saga with Call of Duty and account bans has left me scratching my head more times than I can count. It’s like a rollercoaster ride that keeps going up and down, leaving us players hanging on for dear life.

Following rumors that hackers on Call of Duty might lead to a permanent ban without cause, Activision acknowledged that some genuine accounts had been affected instead.

On October 3, 2024, the Call of Duty content creator BobbyPoff’s account was permanently suspended. Despite vehemently protesting his innocence and asserting that he had never cheated, he was unable to reverse this decision.

In a surprising turn of events, Zebleer asserted that he had discovered a loophole enabling someone to wrongfully and permanently ban Call of Duty (CoD) players, regardless of whether they were in their lobby at the time. According to Zebleer, this exploit affected thousands of accounts, including BobbyPoff’s, among others.

Initially, players were uncertain about the authenticity of the statement, but following Zebleer’s post, Activision clarified that their RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system had detected and disabled a loophole in Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone’s detection system. This issue affected a limited number of genuine player accounts.

All of the accounts that were impacted have been restored, and the development team assured players that monitoring will continue.

Nevertheless, the answer provided did not fully address or appease some perplexed and exasperated players who sought further clarification regarding the circumstances under which this incident transpired initially.

ModernWarzone inquired, “What do you mean by ‘a small number’ and for how long has this ‘temporary solution’ been implemented?

Following criticism for suspected cheating, BobbyPoff rejoiced when his ban was lifted. In response to those who constantly attempt to cancel others due to a lack of fulfillment in their own lives and spend excessive time online seeking to destroy what others have worked hard to create: “You can take a hike,” Bobby Poff expressed.

This all comes after CoD players already had doubts about RICOCHET ahead of Black Ops 6 launching.

It seems that there’s a growing concern among the community that cheating is becoming increasingly prevalent, not just in Warzone but also in Multiplayer mode. On February 21st, Activision acknowledged these reports about an increase in cheaters in Warzone Ranked and suggested that their anti-cheat system might have been accidentally switched off for a brief period.

Discovering that Activision acknowledges the existence of this exploit won’t make it easier to alleviate the worries about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
