As a seasoned gamer with years of console customization under my belt, I can confidently say that the arrival of Dbrand’s PS5 Slim Darkplates has sent shivers of excitement down my spine! The chance to personalize my beloved PlayStation 5 Slim is a dream come true, and the quality and attention to detail Dbrand brings to the table is unparalleled.
Dbrand’s Darkplates are renowned as some of the top third-party console skins for the original PS5 models, but until recently, PS5 Slim owners were left out. Now, they too can revamp their consoles with the newly introduced Darkplates for PS5 Slim. Currently, these Darkplates are only available in black, but you can customize your PS5 Slim’s appearance by adding additional accessories like skins, lightstrips, and a personalized stand. As a launch promotion, Dbrand is slashing the starting price of a pair of Darkplates for both the PS5 Slim and PS5 Slim Digital models to $60 (originally $70).

Due to the company’s past dynamic exchanges with Sony and their legal department, Dbrand asserts that these console covers are undeniably unique compared to the typical white ones for the PS5, and they include a couple of beneficial adjustments too.
Initially, Dbrand’s covers lack extra panels found in PS5 covers, providing a sleeker overall appearance. Instead of the less durable plastic pegs provided by Sony, the horizontal stand uses robust magnets for attachment. As an added advantage, you can enhance your Darkplates with additional accessories to customize the look of your console even further.
The mid-section skins are crafted from premium microfiber fabric, currently priced at $15 (originally $25). As of now, we haven’t tested these skins for the PS5 Slim Darkplates, but we’ve been consistently impressed by their quality on the original launch-model PS5. These skins are designed to fit snugly against the glossy middle area of the PS5 and don’t obstruct any buttons or ports. Upon applying our first skin, we waited a few weeks before removing it, only to find that it left no residue or marks behind. Afterward, we attached a new skin to the console, which has remained intact for over a year without any signs of peeling.
As a gamer, I’ve got six middle tier skins to pick from. One that truly catches my eye is a design showing what my PS5 would look like if scanned under an X-Ray machine. You can go for either the dark or light X-Ray versions of this skin. Other eye-catching options include the Warzone skin, which sports a blue base with swirling red patterns, and Obsidian, a sleek black skin that shimmers. If you’re looking for something less flashy but still want to matte down the shine on your PS5 Slim, you can opt for the Matte Black or Triple Black skins instead.
To customize the edge lighting on your console, you can purchase individual two-packs of lightstrips in colors such as red, purple, green, and blue for just $10 each (originally priced at $12). Alternatively, opt for a combined pack featuring Vapor Pink and Wave Blue lightstrips for only $15 (was $18). Additionally, the Retro Pack is available for $16, which includes sets of lightstrips in Fire Orange, Ice Blue, and Atomic Purple.
Dbrand’s stand is $10 and can be used to display your PS5 Slim sideways or upright.
It’s possible that you might be inquiring about whether Dbrand’s Darkplates for the PS5 Slim Digital can fit the PS5 Pro. Currently, it appears they won’t, and it’s also expected that the regular PS5 Slim console covers won’t work with the PS5 Pro either. Unfortunately, Sony hasn’t announced any alternative cover options for the PS5 Pro at this time. This means that if you decide to preorder the PS5 Pro, you might have to stick with its default white covers until Sony or third-party manufacturers like Dbrand come up with new designs.
