Pokemon And Magic Card Heist Thwarted In Dramatic And Unexpected Fashion

As a gamer who has spent countless hours pouring over Magic: The Gathering cards and battling Pokémon, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and justice served when hearing about the recent arrests in the Enter The Battlefield gaming shop theft case.

Approximately 300 trading cards were swiped from Enter The Battlefield gaming store in Newmarket, Ontario during mid-September. Surveillance footage captured an individual breaking and entering the shop by forcing open the front door, proceeding to the cash register area, and subsequently packing trading cards estimated at $150,000 worth into a bag.

Kris Fekete, the store owner, shared with CTV News that upon arriving, he found our Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon single showcases ransacked, and our valuable cards were missing. But later on, weeks passed, and Fekete received a piece of good news: The culprits behind this theft had been apprehended.

On October 1st, I stumbled upon an intriguing situation at my favorite gaming spot, the OMG Games store in Barrie. Two individuals walked in, seeming to have a rather large stash of Magic cards they were eager to sell. Something about the quantity raised my suspicions.

Rick Bates, proprietor of OMG Games, remarked, “One of our team members pointed out immediately that it fit quite nicely,” referring to the recovered cards. “It filled in many of the gaps left by missing cards.” The store discretely reached out to both Fekete and York Regional Police without tipping off the suspects. Bates and his colleagues managed to keep the suspects occupied for approximately 30-40 minutes.

Bates went on to discuss his worries regarding fake items. He mentioned that his coworker was merely chatting casually, trying to keep them preoccupied. Following the arrival of Barrie police officers, they apprehended the two men from Georgina, charging them with illegal possession of property worth more than $5,000. The seized cards were estimated to be worth between $30,000 and $40,000, which is approximately a quarter of the total value initially stolen.

Constable James Dickson, from York Regional Police, reminisced about his past, stating, “Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon were great escapes during my school years. I spent way too much time with Pokemon,” he mused, looking over the cards with a sense of nostalgia. He continued, “It was fortunate that the store owner managed to delay these individuals, which was beneficial for York Regional Police, our victim, and Barrie Police in getting there on time.

As a gamer, I’ve been informed by the authorities that there isn’t enough evidence at hand to press charges against the two individuals linked to the break-in that happened back in September. However, they emphasize that their main focus is still on retrieving the remaining stolen gaming cards.
