‘Nate Is Late’ Producer Watch Next Media Joins Superprod Group, Expanding Its CG Capabilities and Financing Opportunities

As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of experience, I must say that this latest move by Superprod Group is a masterstroke. The acquisition of Watch Next Media, a powerhouse in French animation, adds yet another formidable player to their roster.

International production-distribution company Superprod Group has taken over the major share of French animation studio Watch Next Media. This move adds Watch Next Media to Superprod’s roster of animation studio associates.

According to the agreement, Watch Next will carry on functioning autonomously, with Philippe Alessandri still leading the team. This arrangement enables Watch Next to enhance its computer-generated animation skills and volume of work, as well as opening doors to additional financial resources.

Approaching its 10th year since inception, Watch Next debuted in 2015 and has experienced significant growth ever since. Among its most popular original productions are the animated series “Nate Stays Late” and “Boy Girl Dog Cat Mouse Cheese,” and it also creates the CG-animated series “Hello Kitty: Super Style!”, a contemporary take on the beloved Japanese franchise. With a bustling production schedule, Watch Next caters to broadcasters and digital platforms globally, including the BBC, Super RTL, Amazon, M6-Gulli, Disney, Canal+, France Televisions, ZDF, Clan, TVO, and RAI. The studio’s library also features titles such as “Audrey’s Shelter,” “The Crunchers,” “Big Lizard,” and “Wild Kat.

Watch Next will be part of the roster of Superprod companies, a group that already includes Superprod Animation (known for “Paddington” and “Miffy”), Melusine (responsible for “Wolfwalkers” and “The Summit of the Gods”), Redmonk Studio (“Underdog” and “Spirit Rangers”), and The Co-Production Company (“Iyanu”). The Superprod Group also creates live-action films and series via its subsidiaries.

Co-founders of Superprod Group, Clément Calvet and Jérémie Fajner, shared in a statement: “We’ve long admired Philippe’s entrepreneurial achievements and his exceptional style. He consistently collaborates with top-tier partners and artists worldwide. We are enormously proud that Watch Next is merging with our group. Our goal continues to be the creation of a globally recognized leader in children’s and family entertainment, as well as beyond.

Alessandri stated: “I’m thrilled to collaborate with Clément and Jeremie, who have constructed a globally recognized organization over the past ten years, maintaining their innovative spirit and constructive corporate environment. This partnership will enable us to exchange knowledge, identify organic alignments, and expand our financial resources, thereby making a significant impact in an increasingly competitive industry.
