As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and relief at Ubisoft’s decision to bring their top-tier games back to Steam. It seems like just yesterday I was battling my way through Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on Steam, only to find the Achievements system missing – a gaping hole in an otherwise immersive experience.
After spending several years exclusively launching their premium game releases through the Epic Games Store, French publisher Ubisoft has now started making these games available on Steam as well. This decision was made clear when they announced a delayed release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, indicating that future titles will be simultaneously released on Steam from Day 1. Additionally, they plan to revisit their existing library and add many of those games to Steam as well.
Star Wars Outlaws is set to arrive on Steam with Wild Card DLC in November, and just recently, Steam Achievements have been incorporated into Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Speaking of Steam Achievements, Ubisoft has made another announcement regarding the launch of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which now has a confirmed release date.
Besides the official release date, an important update about Mirage’s launch is that Steam Achievements will be accessible from day one. The publisher has confirmed that 50 of these achievements will already be incorporated into the game at its release. More details about these specific achievements and their unlock conditions can be found on the game’s Steam page, offering players some insight into what they need to do to unlock them.
Despite this, a Q&A session was hosted by the French publisher on October 10th, 2024, announcing the release date for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This game is scheduled to debut on Steam on October 17th, 2024. The latest installment in the main Assassin’s Creed series will let players embark on the adventure of Basim Ibn Ishaq in 9th Century Baghdad, where they’ll be readying themselves to traverse the “paths of shadows” together with Basim.
A few details regarding its impending release on Steam included its Steam Deck verification, in which the game will be “playable” as launch but will gain its “Verified” status post-launch. Players are also required to have a Ubisoft Connect to play Mirage on Steam, which is a standard requirement for current and future releases.
