TikTok star Rachel Yaffe dead aged 27 from rare liver cancer

As I sit here, scrolling through the endless sea of content on TikTok, I can’t help but be moved by the story of Rachel Yaffe. A young woman, full of life and dreams, who was suddenly faced with a battle against a rare and relentless foe – cancer.

After seven years battling a rare liver cancer, TikToker Rachel Yaffe has died at the age of 27.

20-year-old social media sensation Rachel Yaffe received an uncommon diagnosis of liver cancer. For the subsequent seven years, she valiantly battled the illness until her passing on October 11, 2024.

As a passionate advocate for health awareness, I find it fascinating to delve into the unique case of fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma, a type of liver cancer that often affects those who are generally healthy and young, with minimal or no predisposing risk factors.

After suspecting she had gluten intolerance, the TikTok user underwent an examination which revealed a 20cm tumor in her liver – a diagnosis of cancer.

Immediately after being admitted, Yaffe underwent surgery to take out her tumor. Regrettably, three months down the line, the tumor reappeared and began spreading to her lungs.

Through time, Yaffe adjusted her eating habits to enrich her immune system with nutrients that were missing. However, despite her expectation for a swift resolution in her ‘healing path,’ the treatments she pursued were unable to combat the conditions her body was experiencing.

This year in February, Yaffe encountered a significant health issue as her lung started to bleed. In a recent TikTok update, she clarified that the bleeding was due to a tumor applying pressure on her heart, causing it to obstruct the air supply to her lung.

After that, the TikTok user went through multiple critical operations aimed at saving her life and spent three days on a ventilator. Ultimately, her parents agreed to Yaffe’s course of radiation therapy and immune system treatments.

In a social media post, Yaffe stated, “My strength took a significant hit during radiation treatments and I’ve essentially had to begin anew. It’s been challenging for me to find the motivation to get moving each day, but city life makes it a bit easier. Additionally, I’m diligently adhering to a rigorous diet plan designed for cancer recovery, which requires quite a bit of energy.

Before her death, Yaffe shared her passions, saying she had “so many dreams for my future.”

In my own words, I’m brimming with aspirations for what lies ahead and am deeply driven to chronicle my personal odyssey, hoping it might serve as a roadmap for others, guiding them past the challenging phases and straight into the uplifting, thriving chapters of life.

Prior to her diagnosis, the sports field served as her joyful sanctuary. However, as her stage 4 cancer progressed, Yaffe found solace in watching “a heartwarming romantic comedy, a Netflix original series, or a reality TV show.

In a recent TikTok update from September, Yaffe could be seen at her apartment in Manhattan. With resolve, she expressed that she’s concentrating on the little things that spark joy within her.

Besides Yaffe, another popular TikToker, Taylor Rousseau Grigg, aged 25, also lost her life recently due to health issues. On October 5, she succumbed to a severe asthma attack that proved fatal, as she was battling Addison’s disease.
