Box Office: ‘Terrifier 3’ Scares Off Fast-Dropping ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ on Friday

As a longtime cinema devotee with a penchant for the macabre and a soft spot for horror films, I must say that the success of “Terrifier 3” over “Joker: Folie a Deux” at the weekend box office is music to my ears (or should I say screams?). It’s always refreshing to see a gorefest like “Terrifier 3” outshine the glitz and glamour of big-budget productions.

It seems that moviegoers are preferring a new style of comedic horror with “Terrifier 3” outperforming the second week of “Joker: Folie a Deux” at the box office. The blood-soaked “Terrifier 3” is projected to earn around $8.2 million on Friday, potentially bringing in over $17 million for the weekend.

In 2514 cinemas, distributed by Cineverse under the leadership of Chris McGurk, “Terrifier 3” is being screened. This gruesome sequel has stirred up debates due to its violent content. In a classic horror movie tactic, a complaint hotline has been set up for those who are uneasy about the graphic scenes.

Currently, I’m watching the family-focused adventure movie “The Wild Robot” in its third week, and it’s also the sixth weekend for Warner Bros.’ “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which earned $1.95 million on Friday. In contrast, “Joker: Folie a Deux” experienced a significant drop, bringing in only $2.2 million on the same day.

The Warner Bros. sequel, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, is estimated to make somewhat under $7 million for the weekend, for a $46.7 million cume. DreamWorks Animation/Universal’s “The Wild Robot” brought in $3.8 million on Friday, heading for a possible $13.8 million weekend.

After “Joker,” Pharrell’s Lego biography “Piece by Piece” had a strong start during its first weekend, raking in $1.5 million on Friday and $1.3 million on Saturday. Focus Features reported that “Piece by Piece” received an A CinemaScore and is projected to earn approximately $3.5 million over the weekend. Meanwhile, “Transformers One,” in its fourth week, made $1 million on Friday, predicting a total weekend earnings of around $4.16 million.

The anticipated ticket sales for “Joker: Folie a Deux” during its second weekend were expected to be in the double digits, but surprisingly, the actual decline was even greater than the most conservative predictions. The film opened last weekend with relatively low earnings of $37.6 million, following negative reviews and muted audience excitement.

Across 2309 different venues, “Saturday Night” is projected to earn over $3.7 million this weekend alone, with a potential domestic gross of $4.45 million or higher by the end. Sony distributors predict that the film will have a sustained run through the awards season, suggesting a promising future.
