Police pull over Florida man wakeboarding through Hurricane Milton flooding

As a seasoned gamer who has survived numerous virtual hurricanes and floods in my favorite open-world games, I can’t help but shake my head at the antics of these Floridian adventurers. While I admire their spirit and the thrill they seek in real life, it’s hard not to compare them to those reckless NPCs that always seem to ignore the danger signs in the game world.

A band of residents from Florida became popular online after they were stopped by police while enjoying a ride through streets submerged by Hurricane Milton.

Following the landfall of Hurricane Milton along Florida’s Gulf Coast on October 9th, many streets in the impacted regions became submerged, heightening the importance of safety for those planning to travel.

Regardless of the destruction and obstructed paths, a band of Florida residents ventured out with their pickup truck, intending to use it for wakeboarding on the flooded roads.

A popular TikTok video by ‘DaRealChad’ showed him and his companions lounging atop a pickup truck. Behind them, someone gripped onto a taut orange rope connected to the truck’s back. As he rode across the water, which was flooded, Chad moved wildly in what appeared to be artificial waves created for wakeboarding.

“Hurricane Milton got nothing on us,” the TikToker captioned his post.

However, the festivities were interrupted as police vehicles stopped them. While one female officer conversed with the driver, two other officers looked on from the back of the truck, expressing shock with their head shakes.

Though their actions held consequences, viewers of the viral moment found their escapade humorous.

“Most Florida thing ever. I love our people,” commented one.

Another person commented, ‘It seems they were having a great time!! But honestly, I wouldn’t even give them a citation. More likely, I’d just laugh.’

As a devoted admirer of the vibrant cityscape that is Florida, I found myself in a predicament as certain zones called for compulsory evacuation due to an approaching storm. However, some residents decided to brave it out and stay put within their homes. Notably, social media sensation Caroline Calloway garnered widespread attention when she expressed her fears, stating she might not survive if the storm prevented her from evacuating.

A man from Florida, affectionately called ‘Lieutenant Dan’, generated a lot of attention when he defied orders and remained on his moored vessel, which lay directly in the hurricane’s path.

Following the widespread popularity of his tale, live-streamer Adin Ross extended an offer to him: a brand-new boat valued at up to $100,000 and a streaming partnership with Kick, enabling him to broadcast his upcoming journeys.
