‘The Unholy Trinity’ Star Pierce Brosnan on Getting to Play ‘Richer Characters,’ Director Richard Gray Eyes Calamity Jane and Stagecoach Mary Projects (EXCLUSIVE)

As an admirer of Pierce Brosnan’s illustrious career, I find myself captivated by his journey from playing iconic characters to delving into richer and more diverse roles. His life experience shines through each performance, creating a body of work that is both entertaining and substantial. The upcoming film “The Unholy Trinity” is a testament to this fact, as he squares off against the formidable Samuel L. Jackson in a tale of wit, action, and revenge.

Pierce Brosnan is finally getting to play “richer characters,” he told EbMaster.

To my boys, I often say, ‘Hard work yields results.’ Throughout my entire career as an actor, I’ve been able to build up a collection of work that I believe is both enjoyable and meaningful. There are truly some valuable gems hidden within it.

Richard Gray, the director of the western film “The Unholy Trinity,” concurred: “Pierce is an extraordinarily talented actor. Lately, he’s been delivering exceptional performances. He has a series of upcoming films that will reveal various aspects of him. Over the next decade, he is expected to gain widespread recognition.

Brosnan has consistently shown strong backing for the upcoming film that will conclude the Zurich Film Festival, in which he engages in an on-screen battle with Samuel L. Jackson.

Gray mentioned that collaborating with Pierce and Sam felt like a long-cherished dream realized. Growing up, he admired them immensely; they’re true icons. They inspire everyone around them,” is one possible way to paraphrase the original statement.

Sam is a skilled manipulator, while Pierce serves as a sheriff. Due to the famine in Ireland, Sam was forced to leave town, which many doubt his toughness. These characters are incredibly sharp-witted. With all the intense action, drama, and revenge unfolding, it’s refreshing to have some humor injected.

His statement translated as: “He’s a good person, striving to do his best. Many other Irish people, both men and women, were instrumental in building the West. Their aim was to build better lives for themselves, and there’s an element of charm in that.

Upon Sam’s arrival, there was an added energy. He’s simply outstanding. Our collaboration began with mutual admiration, and it became a joyful experience. It’s essential to maintain a sense of humor when working on a project like his, as it requires a more playful approach.

Brosnan wanted to make a western.

I hold a deep affection for them, having grown up watching them since my childhood days. Over the years, I’ve collaborated with numerous rising filmmakers – some had a clear vision, while others encountered obstacles. Richie, however, poured his entire heart and spirit into this project. During the filming, my two sons were present, and they even made an appearance in the movie. Should they express an interest in acting, I won’t discourage them. They are well aware of the challenges involved.

Gray also “adored” westerns since he was a child.

The purity of that genre is truly captivating. During the late 1800s in America, following the Civil War, was an intriguing period, marked by a mass migration from various countries – Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Mexico, even Australia, including myself, we all found ourselves here.” (He chuckled)

Gray moved to the U.S. 12 years ago and made Montana his home just before the pandemic.

He expressed his viewpoint that the genre is universally recognized. Moreover, many issues they battled in the past still resonate in today’s society, such as empowered female characters, racial justice, and preservation of indigenous territories. In this movie, Q’orianka Kilcher portrays a woman who is falsely accused and must evade capture.

As a movie buff, I must say that this film harkens back to the classic Western genre, yet it’s uniquely its own. In the storyline, we find Samuel L. Jackson portraying a former slave on a quest to reclaim gold unjustly taken from him. My character, Pierce’s Gabriel, is grappling with the desire for revenge, but the town’s residents are deeply divided, as they fought on opposite sides during the war, creating an undercurrent of palpable tension.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I found myself pondering over timeless masterpieces such as “Once Upon a Time in the West,” “Pale Rider,” and “High Plains Drifter.” Not only did these films spark my imagination, but they also ignited a yearning for historical authenticity within me.

Although we’ve invested considerable effort into crafting this tale, we never compromise on delivering enjoyable content. For instance, we constructed an entire western town, Yellowstone Film Ranch, specifically for this narrative. This breathtaking location serves as a fitting stage for our western story.

He has no immediate plans to cease producing them, as he’s currently working on a fresh perspective for Calamity Jane, delving into her early years, and a show centered around Stagecoach Mary. Notably, Mary Fields was the pioneer who became the first African American woman to serve as a U.S. mail carrier.

For quite some time now, we’ve been focusing our efforts on this subject. A woman, equipped with a shotgun, is the center of numerous tales. Despite not being permitted to own property, she managed to possess a saloon. Additionally, there was Sacagawea, who played an instrumental role in Lewis and Clark’s exploration. There are countless other remarkable female trailblazers whose stories would be captivating if brought to life on TV or movie screens,” he hinted playfully.

This particular style won’t fade away; currently, we’re producing a western version of Dracula, and there’s even a werewolf western out there. I find myself immersed, engrossed, and nourished by the world of westerns, yet it never feels repetitive.

The movie was created under the auspices of Amadeus Productions. Gray, Kellie Brooks, Colin Floom, Michele Gray, Jeanne Allgood Gaisford, Carter Boehm, and Cameron Lessard are credited as its producers.
