Timberborn Received „Colossal” Patch. Update 6 Heralds Price Increase

As a seasoned gamer with years of city-building and simulation games under my belt, I must say that the latest update for Timberborn, titled “Wonders of Water,” has truly piqued my interest. The 3D water physics upgrade is a game-changer, adding a layer of realism and interactivity that was previously missing. The automatic locks, new platforms, structures, and wonders are all welcome additions that promise to enrich the gameplay experience.

The city-building game Timberborn has received an impressive upgrade in the form of Update 6, named “Wonders of Water.” This update can be downloaded via Steam. Alongside it comes a new post from the developers and a brand new trailer to showcase the game’s features.

The key enhancement introduced in this update is a significant shift in water dynamics, now rendered in 3D for a more authentic and dynamic flow. This change not only improves the visual and interactive aspects of water but also opens up opportunities to utilize its streams, elevations, and layers in practical applications such as designing aqueduct systems. Additionally, as demonstrated in the trailer, you can even attempt constructing an underwater city with a new construction feature – a waterproof floor.

Wonders, mods and new beginnings

One notable aspect of this innovation is the inclusion of smart locking mechanisms, a feature that players have been eagerly requesting for quite some time. Lastly, not only are there new platforms and structures, but there’s also an entirely novel component: the introduction of wonders.

These structures represent highly sophisticated architectural designs, occasionally necessitating a five-phase construction process. The completion or “activation” of these structures serves as a climax within the game; however, players eager to persist can carry on with the game on the same map.

Activating a wonder may symbolize something (besides making many beavers happy), but constructing one will give you the ability to alter your starting point in future sessions on a specific map. If that’s not enticing enough, the game Timberborn has now gained mod and Steam Workshop support. By the way, the modding system has been revamped slightly for ease of use by fans, encouraging them to create their own unique content.

Beavers at a (higher) price

These enhancements are accompanied by smaller adjustments and upgrades, ranging from customizing beaver tails, to building modifications (including visual ones), the inclusion of construction guidelines, as well as map, animation, and performance improvements, not forgetting various bug fixes. For a comprehensive list of changes, refer to the announcement made by the developers on Steam. Additionally, they have launched a fundraiser to manufacture plush beavers.

Unfortunately, players might find it disheartening that starting from October 24th, the price of Timberborne will go up to $34.99 (previously priced at $24.99).

Starting today until the specified date, you can enjoy a sale on the game! The price isn’t at its all-time lowest, but at $19.99, it’s a considerable markdown, and quite appealing when compared to the recent increase in cost.

Despite some players expressing apprehension, there’s a common concern: historically, such price hikes tend to occur near the end of early access. While many believe that Timberborn is performing at least as well as several completed games, fans are uncertain if this is indeed the final price increase, or if Mechanistry developers might raise it again with the release of version 1.0.

Date of Timberborn‘s departure from Steam’s Early Access remains unknown.
