How To Get Ice Breaker

As a gamer, I found out that the Ice Breaker reward is exclusively up for grabs within the Vesper’s Host dungeon. To get there, you’ll first need the Final Shape Dungeon Key, which can be obtained either by purchasing the last Destiny 2 expansion or by spending 2,000 Silver in-game, equivalent to around $20, if you don’t already have it on hand.

Just like other exotic items from dungeons, the Ice Breaker is acquired as a chance drop from the final boss of the dungeon. However, this means that unlike certain other exotics, you may have to keep running Vesper’s Host until you get it dropped.

There is one way to guarantee getting Ice Breaker, and that’s by completing Vesper’s Host during contest mode. That’s the challenging mode that’s only available during the first 48 hours of the dungeon’s release, as part of the race in which teams compete to be the first group to finish the dungeon. Contest mode caps players’ levels beneath the recommended level of each encounter, equalizing the challenge among all players and making the whole thing a bit more difficult than usual. If you finish Vesper’s Host in contest mode, you’ll get Ice Breaker for your trouble.

If you prefer playing the dungeon without contest mode or wish to boost your chances of getting Ice Breaker, it could be possible. Other dungeons have had Triumphs that increased the likelihood of their Exotic drops, and it’s reasonable to assume the same here. We’ll add more details to this guide once the dungeon is accessible.

Can You Farm Ice Breaker?

As a dedicated Destiny 2 gamer, I can tell you that in certain activities, I can keep playing until I get the gear I’m after – we call this “farming”. However, when it comes to Exotics from newly released dungeons, things are different. Instead of being farmable, your chances to obtain an Exotic are limited to one per character each week. So, if I play on all three characters, I get three tries every week to grab the Ice Breaker. Once I’ve made all my attempts, I’ll have to wait for the weekly reset at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on Tuesday for another three chances.

How To Get Ice Breaker’s Exotic Catalyst

Besides obtaining the exotic weapon in dungeons, it’s crucial to understand that the exotic catalyst is another essential component. This catalyst enhances your weapons by adding extra abilities and boosts. Typically, you need to conquer the dungeon on Master difficulty, solve puzzles, and achieve Triumphs during this process.

Please revisit this manual later, as soon as Vesper’s Host becomes active. Once that happens, we can delve deeper into its features and bring you more information.

What Can Ice Breaker Do?

The Ice Breaker is a solar long-range rifle that primarily employs specialized ammunition. Its primary applications usually involve inflicting precise damage on bosses by aiming several high-power shots at a vulnerable spot during a damage phase, and leveraging its perks to eliminate multiple targets simultaneously, thus clearing rooms more efficiently.

The unique feature that sets Ice Breaker apart and gives it an edge is called No Backpack. With this attribute, Ice Breaker can produce its own ammunition, meaning you won’t need to search for additional Special ammo to keep using it. Instead, each kill or assist with another weapon grants a chance to generate a round for Ice Breaker. If you manage to take down powerful enemies, multiple rounds will be generated. Although the gun has changed slightly from its Destiny 1 version, you can still enjoy the thrill of creating vast amounts of ammo and inflicting extended damage on tougher foes and bosses without relying on ammo drops.

In a straightforward and conversational manner: The Ice Breaker, as aptly named, possesses an inherent ability. If you eliminate a target with the sniper rifle, it will detonate, causing harm to surrounding enemies. But if you manage to score a critical hit or shatter a frozen foe, you’ll trigger a Solar Ignition – an explosion that not only damages nearby targets but also inflicts Scorch, which causes further burn damage over time.

In simpler terms, Ice Breaker performs exceptionally well across Solar, Stasis, and Prismatic loadouts. Its effectiveness is particularly notable when you’re freezing or scorching adversaries. Additionally, it complements Stasis primary weapons that can freeze enemies, making it easier to trigger Ignitions for crowd control.
