‘Black Dog’ Producer Sharp House Kicks Off Inspirational Soccer Biopic ‘World at His Feet’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a movie critic with a lifelong passion for soccer and a soft spot for underdog stories, I eagerly anticipate the release of “World at His Feet.” The tale of George Dowell’s journey from a career-ending accident to becoming the youngest chair in the soccer league is a testament to human resilience and the power of determination.

George Dowell’s unanticipated journey towards owning a soccer club will soon be brought to life in theaters, with Sharp House commencing early production on “Football Dreams.

In 2023, the makers behind “Black Dog,” the film selected for the BFI London Film Festival, are delving into a real-life story of resilience. This movie chronicles Dowell’s inspiring journey from a seemingly career-ending setback to his remarkable ascent and taking the role as the youngest chair in soccer league history.

World at His Feet,” penned by Libby Adam (“I’ll Play Mother,” “Daring”), recounts the true events surrounding Dowell, who, despite a tragic car accident at 17 that left him wheelchair-bound and halted his promising soccer career, did not let adversity define his destiny. Following a lengthy insurance dispute, Dowell discovers that Worthing FC, his local soccer club, was on the brink of administration. Seizing an opportunity with his accident settlement, he takes a daring leap to acquire the club, thereby becoming the youngest chair in the soccer league at an impressive age.

The upcoming movie, helmed by Ian Sharp from Sharp House (“The Matriarch,” “Black Dog,” “The Marker”) and Jason Maza (“Twist,” “Bullet Proof,” “Sparks”), will commence filming in Worthing, U.K., during the first quarter of 2025. It is anticipated that production will be completed later in the same year. A director is currently being sought for this project.

A new TV documentary titled “The Club that George Built,” based on Dowell’s story, has been aired on both TNT Sport and Discovery+ in recent times.

Dowell expressed his amazement at the positive reception of the documentary and is thrilled about continuing the story’s journey onto the big screen for both him and Worthing FC. He’s excited to collaborate with Ian and Jason from Sharp House, who are skilled filmmakers, and looks forward to seeing how the project unfolds.

Ian Sharp, both Producer and CEO of Sharp House, stated: “Sharp House seems an ideal match for George and his extraordinary tale. Given my recent co-ownership of Scunthorpe United Football Club, I’m personally aware of the ups and downs that come with club ownership. I’m excited about collaborating with George and the chance to develop something truly remarkable.

Maza stated: “When I initially encountered George and heard his remarkable story, it immediately struck me as perfect for a grand-screen portrayal. It’s an exceptional, inspiring narrative about conquering hardship and every obstacle life presents. It’s both humorous and heartrending, with a powerful uplifting quality to it. With the talented writer Libby Adams crafting the script, we are in exceptionally capable hands.
