As a seasoned gamer with a knack for deciphering the cinematic world, I must say that Tom Cruise is undeniably a pioneer in the realm of action movies. However, even the mighty Cruise has his regrets, and one such misadventure is the 1985 flick, “Legend.” This fantasy spectacle, though visually breathtaking, didn’t quite hit the mark for our action hero, who swore off similar productions after this experience.
Tom Cruise is well-known for his role as an action movie star, consistently pushing boundaries with death-defying stunts in each new film. Few others could match his achievements in this genre. However, it’s worth noting that despite his successful career and prominent position in Hollywood, there are films he feels remorseful about being involved in.
One of the less favorable spots within this collection is held by the 1985 movie titled “Legend“. This fairy tale extravaganza, where evil forces were planning to exterminate all unicorns and were thwarted by a woodland boy, isn’t one of Tom Cruise’s preferred choices. In fact, he expresses disdain for it, going so far as to lament his involvement in the film and swearing never to take part in another production like it again.
The actor declared this during an interview with Rolling Stone.
I’ll never want to do a picture like that again.
Critical reception towards the movie “Legend” was generally unfavorable. While the visual production design in director Ridley Scott’s film garnered praise, the overall narrative failed to impress the critics. Essentially, they found that an aesthetically pleasing world could not compensate for a storyline that fell short of their expectations.
But Cruise did not regret everything associated with the production. Although the movie itself turned out to be a flop, the actor remembers the experience on the set in a good way, as he shared during an interview with Interview Magazine.
The sets were vast, and occasionally, a scene that barely lasted half a minute in the final cut could take an entire week to film. Despite this, much of my time was spent focusing on a simple piece of black tape and envisioning the grandeur around it. It was captivating and beautiful, almost poetic. Mostly, I found myself in awe.
It seems that even though he’s content with the productions, the actor likely won’t reprise his role in the Legends series again.
