New ‘The Office’ Series at Peacock Casts Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key, Eric Rahill

As a seasoned movie-goer with a penchant for sitcoms that strike a chord of familiarity while still offering fresh perspectives, I find myself eagerly anticipating the new “The Office” spin-off on Peacock. The addition of Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key, and Eric Rahill to the cast, along with their roles as writers for the series, promises a unique blend of humor and insight that is sure to captivate audiences.

The new iteration of “The Office” at Peacock has found four more cast members.

Gbemisola Ikumelo (known for “Black Ops” and “A League Of Their Own”), Alex Edelman (“Just For Us” and “Unfrosted”), Tim Key (“The Witchfinder” and “This Time with Alan Partridge”), and Eric Rahill (“Friendship” and “The Bear”) have now signed on for the unnamed series. They’ve joined an already announced cast consisting of Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, and Ramona Young.

Besides their on-screen roles, Ikumelo, Edelman, and Rahill are also set to contribute as writers for the series. At this point, specific character details have been kept confidential. Ikumelo was recently honored with a BAFTA Award for best female performance in comedy for “Black Ops,” while Edelman recently bagged an Emmy and Special Tony award for his comedy show titled “Just for Us.

Previously mentioned, the upcoming series deviates from being a reboot or spinoff of “The Office.” Instead, it’s a fresh mockumentary with a brand new cast, all while maintaining ties to the same fictional universe. It’s been tentatively referred to as “The Paper,” though an official title remains undecided. The official synopsis reads:

A film team known for capturing the charm of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton office are on the hunt for a fresh topic. They stumble upon a struggling historical newspaper in the Midwest, and its publisher who is attempting to breathe life back into it by enlisting amateur journalists.

Greg Daniels, known for creating the American television adaptation of “The Office,” is teaming up with Michael Koman to develop a new show. They share executive producer roles alongside Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant (who originated the British version), Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas. The production studio is Universal Television.

In January 2024, Daniels established a writers’ den to start crafting the latest version of the acclaimed NBC mockumentary sitcom, originally aired from 2005 to 2013, which was famously known as “The Office” in the U.S. This show, set in Scranton, Penn., depicted the employees at paper company Dundler Mifflin, starring Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Ed Helms, Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak and others. Despite leaving television, the show has remained popular and experienced a resurgence when it was made available for streaming.
