‘Nobody Wants This’ Renewed for Season 2 With New Showrunners

As a cinephile with over three decades of immersion in the world of cinema and television, I can confidently say that the renewal of “Nobody Wants This” for Season 2 on Netflix is a truly momentous occasion. Having witnessed the rise and fall of countless series, it’s always a pleasure to see one that resonates with both audiences and executives.

“Nobody Wants This” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix.

Approximately two weeks after its debut on the streaming platform, news emerges about the upcoming second season of the comedy series. Unlike the first season which premiered on September 26th, the new season will be overseen by different showrunners. Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, both formerly associated with “Girls”, have been appointed as showrunners and executive producers for Season 2. They’ve been leading the writers room for this season for a few weeks now.

The news about renewal was shared by Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, during the Bloomberg Screentime conference held in Los Angeles.

Erin Foster continues to be part of the team as an executive producer for the series, alongside Konner and Kaplan. Additionally, Steven Levitan and Oly Obst are also onboard as executive producers. Bell is not only a star but also an executive producer in the show. Sara Foster, Danielle Stokdyk, and Jeff Morton are among the executive producers too. Nora Silver from Jenni Konner productions joins as an executive producer specifically for Season 2. The series is produced by 20th Television in collaboration with Steven Levitan Productions.

For me, ‘Nobody Wants’ will always stand out as a remarkable career achievement. The exceptional team – cast, crew, producers, and executives – have transformed this series into a phenomenal piece of art. Watching audiences react to our work since its release has been beyond anything I could have imagined. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to carry on the story, and to do so in collaboration with Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, whose work I’ve admired since Girls… Justice for strong relationships remains the most romantic!

This show features Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, Stephanie Faracy, Michael Hitcock, Tovah Feldshuh, Paul Ben-Victor, Emily Arlook, Jackie Tohn, Sherry Cola, and Shiloh Berman as the main cast. The series is described as follows:

At a social gathering, a podcast host who’s uncertain about religion and a non-traditional rabbi finding his footing meet. Leaving the event arm in arm, they realize an undeniable connection; however, they are unsure of what it means given their contrasting perspectives on life and the numerous hurdles that come with contemporary romance. Complicating matters further are their respective family members, including Joanne’s sister Morgan and Noah’s brother Sasha, who can either support or hinder their budding relationship.

Konner expressed his delight about working on ‘Nobody Wants This.’ He considers Erin as a unique creator with a distinct, clear voice and a collaborative attitude. Konner is an admirer of Erin’s work and feels fortunate to be reunited with Bruce Kaplan and Sarah Heyward, who were also part of ‘Girls,’ two individuals he holds in high regard.

Since its debut, ‘Nobody Wants This’ has consistently held the number one position on Netflix’s English language TV chart. In its initial release, it entered at number two with a staggering 10.3 million views. Netflix calculates a view as the total hours watched divided by the total runtime of the show. The series quickly climbed to the top in its first complete week, garnering 15.9 million views and displacing ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ from the top spot.

Kaplan expressed immense joy that goes beyond words to be joining Season 2 of ‘Nobody Wants This,’ produced by the funny Erin Foster. He finds the series exceptionally distinctive and extraordinary, and he’s already enjoying every moment while contributing to it.
