As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but be intrigued by the upcoming release of Brighter Shores. Having grown up in the golden age of Runescape, the name Andrew Gower rings a bell that sends a wave of nostalgia coursing through my veins. The prospect of another immersive MMORPG from this genre pioneer is certainly not lost on me.
According to the latest news, Fen Research is planning to release their free-to-play MMORPG game titled “Brighter Shores” on November 6 through Steam’s Early Access program.
Andrew Gower, known for his work on Runescape, has just launched a new venture called Brighter Shores. As stated on its Steam page, it’s anticipated that this project will be in Early Access for fewer than 12 months.

Approximately two decades after the debut of his groundbreaking MMORPG RuneScape, Andrew Gower and his team at Fen Research have unveiled their plans for a brand new MMORPG titled Brighter Shores. Slated to enter early access on November 6th, this free-to-play game invites players to delve into a captivating medieval realm filled with formidable foes, diverse career paths, and countless quests. Unlike traditional MMOs, Brighter Shores adopts an innovative approach by incorporating tabletop-style elements while leveraging a state-of-the-art, ‘tick-free’ game engine.
In the quaint town of Hopeport, characters in Brighter Shores embark on their fresh journey as town guards, serving as a protective barrier between the settlement and the neighboring magical realm of Adothria. Although their initial duties lie within the town, they soon realize that Adothria is brimming with unexplored possibilities beyond its boundaries. A delightful assortment of peculiar characters infused with humor adds charm to this captivating world, but it also harbors hidden perils. As they traverse diverse landscapes, players will gradually uncover secrets and confront sinister forces scheming to release a great evil upon the land.
Apart from battling to save the world in traditional MMO fashion, gamers can indulge in various pastimes reminiscent of their beloved comfort games, like preparing delicious meals, casting a line for some peaceful fishing, or gathering wood in nearby woods. For those seeking an effortless gaming experience, let your character continue advancing their professions at a leisurely pace all on its own!
Since the initial reveal earlier this year, MMORPG enthusiasts, both veteran and novice, have shown great enthusiasm for the upcoming title “Brighter Shores“. More than 100,000 players have already added it to their Steam Wishlist. Designed by industry vet Andrew Gower, this game is engineered to provide enjoyment regardless of a player’s available time, and without any micro-transactions. In “Brighter Shores“, players can explore, progress, and complete quests at their preferred pace. Although a significant amount of free content awaits, Fen Research will also offer a premium paid pass for those eager to delve deeper into the game.
Excited for this upcoming launch, Andrew says:
“Sorry, I am too busy trying to perfect the game to come up with quotes.”
After some further cajoling, Andrew says:
Brighter Shores will launch packed with engaging features for gamers, marking only the start of our journey. We have a comprehensive plan for continuous updates to ensure our game remains vibrant and full of surprises for many years ahead.
On November 6th, “Brighter Shores” will debut on Steam Early Access for both PC and Mac computers, following a closed beta testing phase which begins on October 22nd, 2024.
