Popular YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, says AI-generated videos are now so high-quality that it’s a concerning development for creators.
For decades, there’s been a growing debate about how artificial intelligence impacts human jobs. It started with machines assisting in industries like car manufacturing, leading to job losses, and it’s only become more prevalent since then.
Artificial intelligence is now widely used to create content online. What began with simple applications like photo filters has grown to include creating realistic videos and handling complex video editing tasks.
I’ve been hearing a lot of creators talk about this, and it’s especially tough for those of us who don’t have tons of money to throw at things. Honestly, it’s a little concerning even for someone as successful as MrBeast, which really says something!
MrBeast fears for YouTube as AI improvements are “scary times”
With the recent emergence of increasingly realistic AI videos created by OpenAI’s Sora 2, MrBeast shared his thoughts on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
He expressed concern about the future of YouTube and its creators, wondering what would happen when AI-generated videos become indistinguishable from real ones. He called it a potentially worrying time for the millions of people who earn a living creating content.
After YouTuber Casey Neistat said things were getting out of hand following the release of Sora 2, Donaldson wondered what the next steps should be.
It’s a little unsettling to think about what will happen to YouTube and the many people who make videos professionally once AI can create videos that look just as realistic. It could be a really disruptive change.

Although AI-generated videos are getting more and more convincing, it’s still usually possible to spot the difference between them and actual footage.
The most obvious way to spot a fake Sora video is the floating logo that appears on the screen. Even if the logo is removed, look for other clues like strange text or people with extra fingers – these are common errors in videos created by the program.
Donaldson has also worked with AI before. He faced criticism for creating a tool that used artificial intelligence to automatically design video thumbnails meant to attract more viewers.
