Holocaust survivor and TikTok star Lily Ebert dies at 100 years old

As a gamer who has had the privilege of experiencing the vast and diverse world of virtual realities, I can only imagine the magnitude of Lily Ebert’s life journey. To have survived the horrors of Auschwitz-Birkenau at just 20 years old and live to be 100 is a testament to an indomitable spirit that defies conventional understanding.

At the age of 100, Lily Ebert – a well-known figure on TikTok – passed away, having miraculously survived the Holocaust in Auschwitz-Birkenau at the tender age of 20.

On the solemn note of October 9, 2024, I sadly bid farewell to the remarkable gamer, Lily Ebert – a Holocaust survivor and TikTok sensation whose spirit was as vibrant as her gameplay. Her great-grandson, Dov Forman, confirmed her passing, leaving us all with a profound sense of loss.

In her final moments, Ebert was enveloped by her cherished family. Despite reaching the age of 100, Ebert experienced more than a single lifetime, having miraculously endured the Holocaust at only 20 years old.

In a post from Forman, who assisted Ebert in her call to educate her 2M TikTok followers about the Holocaust, he said that his great-grandmother died “peacefully.”

With deep sorrow, we share the news that our cherished matriarch, Lily Ebert, affectionately known as Mummy and Safta, passed away peacefully, enveloped by her beloved family in her own home.” – Forman

As Forman went on speaking, he vividly recounted Ebert’s harrowing tale and everything she endured yet survived. “On the 9th of July, 1944, Safta and her family landed at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Tragically, her mother, younger sister, and brother were taken to the gas chambers.

Faced with an overwhelming tragedy, Safta vowed a commitment to herself: if she managed to endure that ordeal from hell, she would share her tale – not out of anger, but with fortitude, grace, and the resolve to pay tribute to those who didn’t make it. Such a promise has never been more powerfully realized than hers.

Instead of saying “Forman went on to praise Ebert for being the ‘queen’ of their large family,” you could rephrase it as “Forman highly commended Ebert as a cherished matriarch within their extended family.” The sentence can then continue, “He also emphasized that her impact will endure through her ten grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A light that shone so brightly has today gone dark.

The radiant beacon that once filled us with light is now extinguished. She, who stood as our guiding star, has vanished, leaving behind a gaping emptiness we struggle to comprehend,” he summarized.

Following her release by Allied troops in 1945, Ebert relocated to Switzerland with a mission to educate others on the Holocaust. Yet, she expressed a sense of rejection, confessing to The Times of Israel that “the world seemed indifferent” to the atrocities she had endured.

Eventually, Ebert moved to London in 1967, where she remained until her death.

In response to her passing, numerous individuals across the web are expressing their sorrow by posting about it on various social media platforms.

One person posted on X/Twitter, ‘She was truly remarkable. Carry on her noble work and persist in your efforts to combat intolerance.’

Dear Dov, I’m deeply sorry for the sadness you’re experiencing. We all share your grief.
