As a seasoned horror enthusiast with over two decades of chilling encounters under my belt, I can confidently say that before you dive into the highly anticipated Terrifier 3, you should definitely take a detour to All Hallows’ Eve. This film is a must-watch for any fan of Art the Clown, the modern-day slasher icon who’s about to conquer the box office with Terrifier 3.

Art’s past is shrouded in mystery, yet his screen presence transcends the Terrifier films, and it’s with All Hallows’ Eve that we encounter him more extensively.
Why you need to watch All Hallows’ Eve before Terrifier 3
In two short films, Leone presented the character Art the Clown: first in 2008’s The 9th Circle, where he was merely a backdrop figure; later in 2011’s Terrifier, where he pursued a young woman who had chanced upon one of his grisly crimes.
Originally turned down by several film festivals, the director ultimately chose to release the final movie on YouTube at no cost. Surprisingly, it garnered hundreds of thousands of viewers and caught the eye of producer Jesse Baget.
Speaking with SlashFilm, Leone shared his thoughts: “I was browsing YouTube for Halloween-inspired shorts, and I found myself wanting to create an anthology based on them. Instead of moving from the Terrifier short film to the Terrifier feature, the opportunity that came my way at the time was this one.
I was incredibly thrilled when I heard: ‘This will soon be available in stores and on DVD!’ That was undeniably the most fantastic news I’d ever received.
In 2013, the movie known as All Hallows’ Eve hit the screens. The plot centers around a babysitter who stumbles upon an unlabeled VHS tape during trick-or-treating. She decides to watch it with the children, only to discover three chilling tales. Each tale features a character named Art, and interestingly enough, he seems to exist beyond the confines of the video.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, the third installment is truly chilling! While it may not quite match up to the first two masterpieces from the main franchise, it sure delivers on the terror front. And let me tell you, it’s not for the faint-hearted – it’s downright gory!
And three… somebody else plays Art the Clown.
All Hallows’ Eve has a different Art the Clown
In contrast to the acclaim given to David Howard Thornton’s chilling portrayal of Art the Clown in the Terrifier films, which some adore and others detest, the upcoming All Hallows’ Eve features a different actor playing the antagonist: Mike Giannelli.
Until 2016’s “Terrifier”, Thornton hadn’t played the character Art. However, Giannelli put on the black and white costume in Leone’s short films which eventually led to his role in “All Hallows’ Eve”.
For clarity, Thornton is remarkable, yet Giannelli might offer an arguably more chilling interpretation of Art. While the Terrifier films gave him a touch of goofiness (though still a formidable near-invincible danger), his earlier portrayals are more enigmatic and unsettling.
In a conversation with the Austin Chronicle, Leone clarified that the character was recast because Mike seemed more like someone in a clown costume, while David embodies the role of a clown more accurately.
If you’ve met him, he’s like a living comic character. In reality, he’s Roger Rabbit, but you wouldn’t guess it – he can transform into Art the Clown at will, shifting from lighthearted to ominous in an instant.
To The Gathering at The Round Table, Giannelli disclosed that he had been given the role in Terrifier. “[Leone] has long aspired to become a renowned horror director,” he shared, “and I, in turn, have always desired a loving family.
In the end, it turned out to be a win-win situation for us. I got an opportunity for the role in “Terrifier”, but I decided not to take it because I’m not particularly fond of filmmaking. The process can be quite lengthy with long hours and extensive makeup applications, which simply didn’t appeal to me.
