As a long-time YouTube user who’s seen the platform evolve over the years, I must admit that I’m finding these recent ad changes more than a little frustrating. It seems like every time I log in, there’s another tweak to the system that makes it harder for me to enjoy my favorite content.
YouTube has quietly implemented some changes to its mobile ad system, and users are finding these updates increasingly annoying.
Over the past several months, YouTube has made a number of adjustments to their advertisements, with each change provoking increasingly strong reactions.
In September, after years of cautionary statements, YouTube (which is owned by Google) introduced pause-screen advertisements at last. Subsequently, they increased the cost of YouTube Premium, a service that guarantees an ad-free experience on the platform.
Currently, YouTube has implemented some new modifications in their advertisements, particularly for mobile viewers, and the response from users has been far from positive.
According to reports from AndroidPolice and users on r/YouTube, the mobile application has started to conceal the “skip ad” button, as well as the length of the advertisement. Interestingly, it seems that the button becomes visible for some viewers after a short wait.
A user mentioned that they initially thought it was a technical issue, but found out that they needed to click directly on the video advertisement for both the duration and skip buttons to appear.

Others voiced concerns about the recent modifications, stating, “I found myself watching ads for longer than usual as I wasn’t able to determine how much time had passed. Could this be a deliberate strategy, or is there another explanation?
“Has happened to me a lot, just wish that I could punch YouTube in the face,” blasted someone else.
Meanwhile, these two updates appeared at the exact moment when YouTube began concealing the “skip ad” button on desktop screens behind a gray square.
To date, YouTube has not completely eliminated the “Skip Ad” button, which some viewers find concerning as they believe Google is persistently devising new methods to generate revenue from their widely-used video platform.
In June, the website introduced a novel strategy aiming to permanently bypass ad blockers by incorporating a fresh function that makes it difficult for software to identify and screen out advertisements.
