Juana Acosta-Starring Thriller ‘The Bail’ Gets U.K., German Theatrical Runs After Latin Quarter Distribution Pickup (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a penchant for international cinema, I must say that the upcoming black comedy thriller “The Bail” (La fianza) has certainly piqued my interest. Having traveled extensively across Europe and Latin America, I appreciate stories that delve into diverse cultures and narratives, and this film seems to promise just that.

Entertainment company Latin Quarter Entertainment, based in The Hague and specializing in sales, co-production, and distribution, has obtained the U.K. and German cinema rights for the film “The Bail” (“La fianza”) from first-time Colombian-Spanish director Gonzalo Perdomo. This agreement was finalized during the Iberseries & Platino Industria market held in Madrid this year.

“Following her daughter’s sixth birthday party, Ana finds herself unexpectedly hosting an enigmatic man named Walter, who seeks out her husband Ricardo. It seems that there are outstanding matters between them. Initially, this appears to be a casual visit for Ana, but things take a dark turn when she uncovers Ricardo’s deceit and infidelities, and learns the true purpose of Walter’s presence: he is using Ana and her daughter as leverage to force Ricardo into completing a deal with a dangerous drug cartel that Walter is involved in.

According to Perdomo, ‘The Bail’ originated from two straightforward ideas. Firstly, he wanted to narrate the tale of a woman who, in an effort to enhance her circumstances, moves to a new country, adopts a different culture, and transforms her life. Secondly, he aimed to create a movie that, within the span of one day and at a single location, portrays the struggle and empowerment of this very same woman as she navigates a foreign world dominated by men.

Juana Acosta, known for “Perfect Strangers” and “Anna,” takes on the main role in this movie, sharing the screen with Julian Roman from “Hasta Que Te Conocí” and Israel Elejalde of “Madres paralelas.

Acosta expressed her admiration for Perdomo’s keen observation skills, referring to them as “excellent eyesight.” She further characterized the project as an engaging blend of suspense and dark humor, with intricate plotlines certain to spark lively conversations among viewers.

As per Juan G. Castro, Managing Director of Latin Quarter, they’ve long admired Juana Acosta’s career and were excited to collaborate on a film featuring her. They are deeply appreciative to Iberseries & Platino Industria for providing them with the chance to explore and obtain cutting-edge Ibero-American production at their annual gathering, where they’ve been participating since its inception.

At the end of this year, ‘The Bail’ is set to premiere in Spain. Then, in the first quarter of 2025, Latin Quarter will transport the movie to London and Berlin.
