As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the news about Horizon Zero Dawn getting a remaster for PS5 and PC has left me both excited and a bit perplexed. The excitement stems from the fact that one of my favorite games is getting a visual upgrade and a fresh lease of life, while the confusion arises due to Sony’s recent decisions regarding the original game.
In their latest State of Play presentation, Sony unveiled plans to upgrade Horizon Zero Dawn for both the PS5 and PC as a remastered edition. Soon after this announcement, Sony increased the price of the PS4 version by double its original cost. More recently, Sony has taken down the original Horizon Zero Dawn from Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Through IGN, it appears that Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition is still listed on Steam, but it cannot be purchased directly; instead, fans are directed towards buying either Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered or the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. The page for the remastered version also indicates that the game will necessitate a PlayStation Network (PSN) connection. This feature has been the source of significant player dissatisfaction, as evidenced by recent review-bombing of God of War Ragnarok. Many gamers have expressed disapproval, particularly when such requirements are applied to single-player games.
In a visual update similar to Forbidden West, Horizon Zero Dawn has undergone significant enhancements. This includes improved character models, plus the addition of new textures and shades. Moreover, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered boasts over 10 hours of fresh motion capture performances.
On October 31, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will be available for both PC and PlayStation 5. If you’ve previously owned Horizon Zero Dawn, there’s an opportunity for you to purchase its PS5 upgrade at a cost of only $10.
