Lyle Menendez makes shocking claim about Dr. Jerome Oziel in new documentary

As a seasoned gamer with a keen interest in true crime narratives, I find myself captivated by the latest Netflix offering, “The Menendez Brothers.” Having delved into countless games and stories that revolve around investigations, betrayals, and psychological manipulation, this real-life drama strikes a chord.

In the latest Netflix documentary about the Menendez brothers, Erik and Lyle provide insights into the well-known true crime incident, discussing details such as the contentious role played by therapist Dr. Jerome Oziel during the original murder trials.

Warning: some may find this content distressing.

Prior to the 1989 murders of Kitty and Jose Menendez, Erik, who was previously involved in a theft incident along with his brother Lyle, underwent therapy sessions at Oziel, following their arrest.

1990 saw a significant development in the ongoing murder investigation when Judalon Smyth, who was both Oziel’s mistress and a patient of his, approached the police with information that he possessed a recorded admission of guilt from the Menendez brothers.

Following the confiscation of the recordings, Erik and Lyle found themselves under arrest, leading to a pair of contrasting viewpoints surfacing.

In one scenario, Oziel asserted that the brothers had made threats against him, justifying his decision to break doctor-patient confidentiality. However, from the brothers’ perspective, they alleged that Oziel was extorting them, forcing them to admit wrongdoing through blackmail.

Later on, Jerry Oziel (formerly known as the therapist) faced the revocation of his license, whereas Smyth continued her journey, eventually testifying for the defense, claiming that she was influenced or manipulated mentally by Oziel, suggesting brainwashing.

Today (October 7), the newly released true crime documentary titled “The Menendez Brothers” on Netflix offers fresh insights into the ongoing debate about O.J. Simpson, allowing both Lyle and Erik to share their perspective on the events that transpired.

During a prison interview, Lyle unexpectedly alleges that his previous therapist was scheduled for the sessions because it was understood that Lyle would relinquish his anonymity.

As a devoted admirer, I can say that, based on my understanding of events, this put Jose Menendez in a position where he held ultimate command over what his son shared, turning what should have been a private, trust-filled sanctuary for openness into a controlled environment.

Lyle stated, “My dad wouldn’t employ Doctor Oziel unless he agreed in writing that anything Erik shared with him, he would pass on to my father.” And indeed, Doctor Oziel did sign such an agreement.

He remarks, ‘My father selected this unscrupulous psychologist as he was the one who agreed to forgo confidentiality, thus making it impossible for me to truly share my concerns with the professional.’

Initially, Lyle was upset with Erik due to his confession to Dr. Oziel, as they understood that Erik wasn’t trustworthy. However, Lyle has since pardoned him. Erik clarified, “I sought help from Dr. Oziel because I genuinely wanted to end my life.

As Oziel admitted, he desired a single recording where, somewhere within that recording, he could be overheard saying, “You guys claimed to have killed your parents.” (As a gamer speaking about the conversation)

Instead of saying, “It wasn’t as if he said, ‘Oh, this is awful. I’ll lend a hand and we’ll tackle this privately.’ A typical therapist would act that way. However, Dr. Oziel was more inclined towards extortion.

Lyle denies having ever threatened Dr. Oziel, stating that he doesn’t engage in such behavior of threatening others.

Until the tragic incident involving my parents’ shooting, I hadn’t engaged in any act of violence. Yet, it was clear that he wasn’t feeling intimidated or fearful. Instead of reporting his feelings of threat to the authorities, he had the means to do so but consciously decided not to.

Currently streaming on Netflix, you’ll find the gripping tale of the Menendez Brothers. For those interested in learning more about their potential freedom, a petition is worth exploring.
