Motion Picture Assn. Appoints Emilie Anthonis to Replace Stan McCoy in Europe, Middle East and Africa

As I delve into the captivating world of Hollywood, I find myself utterly impressed by the appointment of Emilie Anthonis as President and Managing Director for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region at the Motion Picture Association (MPA). Her journey through the audiovisual sector, her influence in policymaking, and her respected voice in European capitals make her an ideal choice to lead such a prestigious organization.

The Motion Picture Association (MPA), a Hollywood advocacy group, has chosen Emilie Anthonis to serve as president and managing director for their Europe, Middle East, and Africa region, starting January 1st. She will succeed Stan McCoy, who is retiring after over a decade in this position.

The Media Production Association (MPA) advocates for the needs of its constituents, namely Paramount Global, Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon’s Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, as well as Netflix.

Charles Rivkin, head of the MPA, stated that Emilie is a seasoned professional in the MPA and European audiovisual sector, known for her strong advocacy for the creative industry. She is skilled in policy-making, respected as an influential voice in Europe, and recognized for her integrity as a leader. Rivkin believes Emilie is prepared to manage our operations and act as a powerful representative for our industry within this region. He has complete faith in her abilities to continue advancing the MPA’s goals, leading policy initiatives, and fostering partnerships with European stakeholders and beyond.

Located in Brussels, Anthonis is positioned under the supervision of Gail MacKinnon, the senior executive vice president, in charge of global policy and government affairs.

Anthonis expressed enthusiasm about taking on his new role within the MPA, maintaining the collaborative essence that Stan has fostered throughout our MPA EMEA activities. Europe, being a crucial market for our MPA members, boasts a rich history of storytelling and collaboration in this region,” said Anthonis.

I feel honored to be handing over the reins after an exhilarating decade at the helm of what I believe is Europe, Middle East, and Africa’s most proficient trade association, excelling in public policy, antipiracy, and numerous other domains,” said McCoy, a seasoned U.S. trade official, who is now returning to his roots in Washington DC.

Before starting her role in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) in 2017, Anthonis had previously held positions as director of legal and public affairs at the Association of Commercial Television in Europe, in-house counsel at Viacom, and IP lawyer at a law firm in Brussels specializing in copyright and media law. Prior to these roles, she pursued her law studies at the Universities of Leuven and Antwerp, and went on to earn master’s degrees in European and intellectual property law from the University of Brussels.
